I'll start the ball rolling.
Failed on the air freshener
-
And you expect us to top that ;D
Only failed one - Rear brakes, a proper failure.
-
Well I don't know if this counts but 1 reason for mine failing the other week was due to 1 tyre being wrong rotation ! Guess the tyre must have been fitted by kwik sh!t !
-
I certainly aint gonna be able to top that ::) I`m just glad i did`nt buy that homer simpson air freshner from halfrauds yesterday now ;D ;D ;D ;D Oh wait till Loo-Knee see`s these threads ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

how about noisy 3rd gear & a little patch of rust on door [& i do mean little], mind you it was a hackney carriage test on my cortina, other drivers had similar such as loose seat covers, dirty carpets & the best one was a rattly sun visor ;D ;D

Just been looking back through its history online, and since the online stuff started (2006) I've had 3 refusals on on the MV6 - 2006, broken spring, 2008 handbrake and ovaled wheel, 2009 air freshener.
I beginning to think me and the MV6 were not made for each other :'(

Half a bottle of whisky on the passenger seat instead of a full one ::) ;D

Ah take no notice of them problems that too bad...my first car was a 1.3 escort estate it was a shed but it was mine it failed on 8 different items at kwik-fit 6mths after buying it shocks,n/s front wheel bearing, exhaust(held on with gaffer tape) and brake pedal going all the way to the floor brakes where totally shagged i asked a local mechanic how much to repair and the response was get a gallon of petrol its cheaper mate....We live and learn i suppose....

In the windscreen?
-
Far right hand side of the windscreen. Same place as the tax disc but opposite site

Yes, I can see that being illegal...
-
It was only the sucker though, the phone actually sat above the window heater vent. Apparently it was the 'transparent' sucker that hindered vision!!

does that mean youve got smelly balls hanging down ;D ;D

In the late seventies I had a Dolomite Sprint .
The MOT tester failed it after counting the flash rate of the indicators against a stop watch . I would add that there was no obvious problem with the indicators and the replacement flasher module made no real visible difference to the rate . I returned with the car and he again stood with the stopwatch and passed it as " within tolerance "

I remember a mates Mk3 escort failing on rot.....we went to weld it up and the under side of the floor pan was covered in yellow chalk.
I had to weld 9 plates on the bloody thing to get a ticket on it!

old corsa failed on rear wheel bearing... they wanted 130 to replace it (just one)...
not bad considering i changed them prior to the mot & when i confronted them over it & mentioned vosa... it suddenly passed!
if the air freshner is in the window, if its obstructing any of the wiped view from the drivers pov, it will fail... i guess the tester is being anal then and not giving leway about it... (mine just passed with a dangler from the rear view mirror)

IIRC the flash rate is between 60 & 120 flashes per minute.
Quite a margin.

Only take about 20 mins to do a rear bearing on the older Corsas.
The common fault was in-correct tightening of the hub nut (fit the road wheel and nip the castleated nut up until there is no detectable play).
-
'vehicle failed the test due to being too dirty to examine'
Should have jet washed the bottom the day before i suppose, all the road dirt was dripping off it......
That was in N.I. there MOT's were murder! was like taking a PSV/HGV for a test......couldn't just go into your local garage over there for a MOT....

exactly! only reason i took it to that garage was i had a track day next day so needed it sorting! i'd done all the bearings, brakes, everything! i guess they just thought, ooooh, modofied corsa, lets make some money...
ad a good chuckle afterwards, but was a bit peeved when they tried fob me off...

Another reason to take your cars to an MOT station that doesn't do repairs. SWMBO's car had slight play in a rear bearing (FWD) that the tester just pointed out needed looking at. He passed the car & I sorted the bearing (read the manual to see how I should have preloaded the new bearing earlier in the year, in the first place! ::))

How times have changed..............!! :o :o
Air freshener indeed!...............obscuring the vision through the windscreen no doubt!! ::) ::) :D ;)

hehe beleive it or not, a mate here has just failed the spanish ITV (MOT) here on nothing but ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- an incorrect oil level!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stations are government run and do not do repairs so no axe to grind but part of the test is the oil level and the car was failed!!!! good grief!! it was just above the mnimum when tested!! now if that isnt the stupidest reason to fail an mot i dont know what it is!!!
