Title: Help with Ford Focus, pretty please!
Post by: mv6copcar on 13 February 2009, 11:20:27
I know I know, '''omegaowners''' forum, but please,

I've just been given a Ford Focus, 2000 'w', diesel, manual, 1.8lt turbo.

The owner lives down my road, and broke it during the floods and just said if i can fix it, i can have it.
so worth a punt i think...?

He drove it through water 3ft deep, and it cut out. thats all i know!  :o

It won't turn over now, starter motor just turns engine over by 1/4 of a turn, the clicks.

assuming its full of water and it can't compress or pump the water out.

What are the odd's of major damage, and anyone know the best way to suck water out and try and turn it over?

Thanks omegaowners  8-)

Joking aside, thats hydrauliced, and will have sustained significant engine damage, usually bent rods.

removed the injectors, pulled the fuel pump relay and it turns over quite well, water jetting out everywhere!

however, once i put the injectors back in, it locked up again!??

must be something relating to compression/bent con-rods???

lol, i must say it has crossed my mind!!

but - i've been given this car, log book and keys etc, its in real good condition and only 54k. so even if i changed the engine, i'm still likely to make a few quid?

 :-?

hmmm, just spoke to a breaker, £200 for the engine.
i think i will give it a go as it owes me nothing and if i cant sell it for good enough money i'll run it as a 2nd car, saves me and SWMBO argueing over who left the fuel tank empty!

Go for it mate.....

£200 for an engine...2 days of your own labour.....

A W reg Focus is got to be worth a minimum of £800-£1000
I would have thought

Even if you only get £800 its £600 pure profit...and £600 to spend on the Miggy :y

I wonder if the breakers engine will include the injection pump.iirc they are approx £1600 from Ford.If you swap the old one I think it needs Fords version of tech 2.

It worries me what is going on with cars. :(  No longer can we lift the bonnet and fix them. :'( :'(  Got too technical imho,  last June I, well daughter, lost my set of car keys, this included a key for the Mig ad for My Citroen. Citroen garage said about £150 for a new key, Mig is similar.

Nope, keep all the sensors, looms and pump from the old engine and it will all be fine
