Title: 3.0 vs 3.2
Post by: doog on 19 February 2009, 10:23:24
Is there a noticible difference between the 3.0 and the 3.2 power wise?
oh and while im asking is there a difference between the 2.5 and the 2.6?

and i dont mean cc's
i mean if you had a  3.2 and someone swapped it for a 3.0 over night would you notice the difference when you got in it the next day?

3.2 have different diff ratio so you feel more power, but the top speed is lower.
Gearbox is set differently – it’s softer not that aggressive. You may feel it's less sporty.
Apart from that 3.2 gives more torue - it's better on low revs than 3.0.

The 3.0 can be chipped quite cheaply to give approximately 230bhp so I would ask them to refit my original engine  ::)

I'll be running a 3.2 using a chipped 3.0 ecu in mine, so should make for something interesting perhaps (like a whole 4bhp more than the 3ltr)

But the 3.2 still cost me less than buying a 3.0...  its also newer and has very little mileage :)

So you'll be ditching the camcovers and coilpacks and going for the 3.0 equivalents then?

Yup!  Converting the Elite to DBW as its a pre-facelift will be an utter arse!

Plugs, leads, and a single coilpack please :)

you mean converting the engine to non DBW?

Why do DBW if you are binning the coil packs

I'm not doing DBW thats the thing, its all going to be running from the same kit as the 3ltr's do.

The current coil-per-plug setup on it is whats getting binned.

even with the same car, same engine it differs when you change oil, sparks and filter..

but if expectations are towards high performance (mean racing), even 3.2 wont suffice..

Depends if the eml is on with the pre cat code...?
