due to lifting washing machines all day ive got tennis/golfers elbow and it hurts like a bummer. so instead of going on the road im doing a spell at training/supervising so can give it a bit of time to recover.
anyone else had it and how long did it take to ease off????? :-/

Mate, had it most of Nov/Dec. Trouble is its like RSI and problem is its caused by you doing certain movements that are an integral part of your job. Commonly found to affect people like typists/vdu workers, taxi drivers, plasteres, carpenters etc who grip/twist. The condition is "self limiting" ie it will eventually repair itself but, obviously, trick is to learn slightly new ways of doing your existing job. Mine just got slowly worse until this dull ache got to the point where i couldnt sleep. Went to gp who recommended high dosage iubrufin and ,failing that, rather painful cortesone injection. The iubrufin didnt work and made me feel drowsy and didnt fancy injection as not guaranteed to work. So opted for exercise route as dont like taking pills un necessarily and wanted a more longterm result. Had about 4 1/2 hour sessions of sports massage (and let me tell you, for those whove never had it , a sports massage is NOT relaxing, it hurts like f*ck!!). Its a bit of a mixture of shiatsu and other methods but it works. She said I was quite lucky because I had left it far too long before coming to see someone (just put it down to getting older!!) and that my forearm was like it had a lead pipe in it and that, more critically, stress on this part of my arm was now causing me problems with my shoulder. She gave me some simple exercises to do , which I do now, and a brace for my arm which basically fools the muscles into giving the affected part a break and which I use as and when. To sum up; 1)see a sports injury specialist for massage (about £30 a 1/2 hour) 2) do exercises to "rebalance " your body 3) invest in a brace (mine was a dear one at £25 but you can get cheaper). It aint cheap, but trust me its better than that bloody nagging ache and your inability to grasp even a cup of tea!!! :y
