i like the wheels on the escort :y
-
Ow yes, you need to overlook the fact that one of them has a shite engine, shite reliability, shite looks, crap interior that falls apart and a tendancy to rot
-
i like the wheels on the escort :y
Not standard fit so not part of what should be considered.
I would of used a different pic but, its impossible to find a photo of one in standard out of the factory state
-
i like that saab, looks nice :y :y
-
Saab any day! :D :D ;)
-
everyone will choose the saab
you should of done a compare between a escort cab and something like a pug cab
-
err neither. i would rather walk
-
Defo the saab :y
-
Saab everytime :y

No, I am compring cars which can be obtained for like for like prices....
One of the above is a proper convertible, the other is a standard car with the roof cut off, inferior chassis support plates welded on and handling that is worse than the average performing car which it was derived from.
-
I've had a mk6 escort cabro and It was very good. I bought it at 24,000 miles and sold it at 132,000 and in all that time it only broke down twice, once it needed a new battery and the other a new lead on the starter motor.
BUT .... I voted for the Saab cos if I nearly bought a hard top one before the miggy came up.
-
Depends how much I had to spend :)

Which is the Saab...
-
Saab of course, Im suprised that there is any comparison ;D
-
Its a no brainer for me, but based on nothing more than the fact every escort I have ever driven, I've crashed.
No desire to look like a woman, I'll have a car with a tin roof.
-

you can't vote pete
mx5 not on the list :y

Saab any day but I don't really like the saab either :-/
-
Depends how much I had to spend :)
Both go for the same cash when running (and not running interestingl!)

Though I wouldn't have the saab either, never liked them.
If I HAD to have one I'd be torn :-/
Probably go for the Ford - better resale value I reckon

Pretty much bugger all in that either!

I don't think you would get a Saab for the price LK paid for the Escort which has a current MOT but the roof is a little tatty ;)
Although I must add he has just bought a Saab with a tin roof for less than he paid for the Escort ;D

Nah, would have to be the saab - on the law of averages, I'm gonna mame myself next time I drive an Escort/Focus...

Loo-Knees is road legal apart from RFL and running, the Saab needs a good few quid throwing at it ::)

Second hand engine for 1-200 quid, 4-5 hours fitting and a re-sale price of a grand
-
Shagged/no roof on LooKnees.....
Its got a bit of a tear in each corner behind the rear windows which is quite common I believe.
-
Er they are both wrong wheel drive.
Last Saab I drove was horrid - the 4 year old 2.6 Omega I drove same day was 1000x better
The only Escrap of them model I have been in and driven was a van and it was dire.
Can I have a late 24V GSi3000 Carlton instead please?
Or a late Avenger or Sunbeam with fun bits (minimum 1600)?
-
ann's sitting watching her programs but just looked over my sholder and said she would pick the escort as it looks nicer
-
ive always looked at them escorts as womens cars. never wanted to drive one. i did drive a fiat pansy for 2 weeks. pile of poo that was ;D ;D
-
Hmmm i must be double sad...ive had an escort cabbie....looked nice, handled ok although very hard ride being it was lowered.
I do like the look of the Saab...in fact id happily have one. :y
-
i'll have a 3 wheeler

The first car i ever drove was an 850cc supersport in blue with a red starsky and hutch style stripe on the side, am suprised it didnt put me off driving for life lol
-
First car I ever drove was my moms Triumph 1500TC. First car I owned was a 2.2 auto princess ;D Don't ask ;D
-
thought about it for ages, voted for the GM piece of shite :-[
-
Would have to bee the Saab :y
-
As there were only 2 choices I picked Saab to see the results.
But in all honesty I would look completely out of place in a convertable, and I am not a fan of FWD but the Saab looks classier than the Ford and in most cases I reckon Saab had better reliability.
-
Has to be the saab. Have had escorts of various marks in the past and only recently got to drive a saab because my stepson sells them (along with some v.nice vx cars, including Monaro) and have to say was q.impressed. Just hope that in current climate his job is still secure!
-
I went for the Saab simply because it's a GM / Cavalier type product with a better public perception to the Ford. (Saab badge IMHO has a better image).
I suppose the other thing to keep in mind is the age of the driver because different age groups will have different views.
-
A mate of mine bought a Saab turbo convertible recently (03 plate iirc)
been for a drive in it and was completely underwhelmed,no low down power/torque,had to rev the nuts off it to make it go and then it was quite harsh, also not that comfy and the interior has acres of cheap looking plastic.
-
With the possible exception of the Mk1 RS turbo B or C reg (white lightning) all fwd Escorts were wink. Awful handling, gearchanges that were worse than an Austin Maxi & build quality of an Allegro. CVH engine stood for:- Coarse, Vibratory & Harsh
Best thing about them was they rusted away quickly. ::)
-
deffo Saab even with its high consumption and expensive parts..
escort..no thanks.. (may be will be a good car for wife to practice :D)
-
err neither. i would rather walk
That could be arranged ;D
-
Glad to know i'm in the majority...
Wife would have chosen the other one though!
If truth be known, i was looking for a 9000 turbo when i found my Mig..and still fancy one.

Always liked the 9000 aero, don't really want a convertable though. :y

2nd class drive is always better than a first class walk when its raining! :D
-
definitely the Saab :y :y :y
-
We need a "none of the above". Both have too many seats to look decent with the top down IMHO.
Kevin
-
or more "bodywork" to put the seats into proportion :y

Yes, that works, actually.
Doesn't look as much fun on the twisties, but I guess you could just chuck a Lotus 7 clone in the boottrunk in case you come across some interesting roads. ;D

That would handle like an elephant on cross ply's but it's cool to cruise. 8-)
-
Saab will be going strong a long time after the Ford has rusted away!
-
i think everyone loves the escort
just don't want to admit due to the p**s take they will get afterwards
-

Erm, dont think so. The Mk1 and 2 stood a chance being RWD, but have allways been a VX fan over Ford.
-
S A A B :y
-
Saab, hands down. I don't like Escorts & never have, only had one & it was crap, oh & an Orion, that was crap too.
-
i wonder who voted for the escort
loo-knee has gotta be one
-
As if I am bothered what everyone thinks anyway ;D
And yes I did vote YES :P
-

fair play to you
i'm right with you on that one :y
-
Saab i'm afraid, been down the ford route with the RS models over the years and the saab will long outlive the blue oval
-
Can't help notice how close the result is :)
-
They are all lying ;D
-
I was so tempted I even started looking them up on Fleabay -- saab that is ;)
-
Saab, all day long!
(But I'd rather have the previous incarnation.)
-
Only one convertable id ever consider..................
mk2 Cavalier, oh yea!
Nice caddy sassanach! cant do much more than 9mpg can it?
-
It has to be the SAAB ,but i've only owned 1 softop a truimph spitfire and that put me off for life with convertables .If i want fresh air it has to be a motorbike ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
They are all lying ;D
Was this poll a dig at a recent, perhaps misjudged, decision you made then? I have not read it all :)
-
Gotta be the Swede!
No comparison.
-
BTW folks, I sat in a Saab 95 a few weeks back - absolute crap leg room! And that was for the driver! Seat would not go back further than, say, an Escort. Unbelievable - walked away.
-
Has to be the Saab ....Looked at a 95 Aero a few years ago but he wanted too much money for it :o
Angie xx
-
I voted Saab
P.S. Anyone read Evo? There's a 900 convertible currently in their Grand Challenge
-
err neither. i would rather walk
Convertibles.........great for showing off your new breasts :y
