They have just pulled an auction off because I wrote advertised elswere on the listing, instead of just asking me to change it. I have seen that written on loads of auctions!!
it said we have removed your listing because it breached our Inappropriate Seller Terms policy.
They better not charge me to relist the b*@*~*^ds
-
That is correct. And the right thing for them to do.
You get your listing fee back on a pulled auction
-
the wording implied you may pull it at the last minute (ie, 'sell elsewhere' aka not get what you wanted for item ;)).
The rules of ebay say that an auction must be allowed to run to completion

I hope so, they must of changed their policies because I have seen that wording on hundreds of auctions!

That wasn't my intention but why is it, people use it all the time and their auctions don't get pulled?
-
Dont get me started on eBay. I still havent got access to my account. Last email they wanted my address history since setting up the account (about 7 years)
I politely told them to break orf!!! >:( >:(

They just seem to be getting more and more big headed and against the sellers!!

They do, trust me... ...but only if they know about them :-X
idea is, ebay is like a normal auction house. Once you've submitted your item, thats it, its sells at its price on the day (or not at all).
Can't imagine Witney Car Auctions being happy if halfway through bidding on my car, I get them to stop as I'd sold it elsewhere ;)
-
I understand what you mean but you see it all the time with cars on ebay, people also have it in auto trader etc. I know its not best practice but people still do it.
-
ive seen loads on ebay saying advertised else where
ive had mine pulled off before for doing it so now i just don't put it and if i do sell what ever i'm selling in the paper i just end the auction
-
it wouldnt be so bad if they just emailed asking you to change it, takes so bloody long to upload your pictures when relisting.
-
Well I have been charged twice!! Only because I relisted it twice, the first was accidental. I am hoping they might take pity and refund one of the listing fee's.
Not holding my breath though!! :'( :'( :'(

Chances are you were reported by someone with nothing better to do. If not reported they won't pull it as they just have too many listings to police themselves.
We get it a lot, selling cosmetics, with other sellers trying to scupper us!
Apparently, for an unexplained reason, we are not allowed to use the word "Platinum" in the description .... that gets picked up automatically by one of their filters -- but "Platnum" gets through ::)
-
they also seemed to have tightened up on sellers putting XXX not YYY in the title eg 'Vauxhall NOT BMW, Mercedes', which I found bloody annoying. If I search for Vauxhall its because I want one, not an effing BMW..
-
i just sold a car on ebay, and in my listing the exact words i used were....."car advertised elsewhere so i reserve the right to end auction early" Nothing was said about that.

This is what ebay have just e-mailed to me as I complained thay pulled my auction without contacting me first.
Thank you for contacting us regarding removal of your XXXXXXXXXXX. I understand your frustration
that we removed your listing without speaking to you first.
While I agree it would be courteous to speak with you before removing a
listing, due to the short time listings are on the site, varying time
zones of eBay sellers, and competing demands on eBay staff, it's simply
not possible for us to contact every seller any time we need to take an
action on their account.
Therefore, although it's regrettable, we don't contact sellers before we
remove their listings. Please rest assured that we always try to make
the best decision possible based on the information available to us at
the time.
Furthermore, please be informed that you will be charged nominal listing
fees if you are listing your item again on eBay. However, we have
already credited the fees for the item which was ended by eBay.
Additionally, I understand your concerns about similar listings on the
site. Please rest assured that the same rules are applied to all
members. If a listing breaches our policies, we remove it from the site.
However, taking into account the sheer volume of listings on eBay -
unfortunately we aren't made aware of every breach of our policies.
Also, we rely on reports from our members to bring such listings to our
attention. So, please report any such items to us using the "Report this
item" link at the bottom of the item page, or by clicking "Contact Us"
on any eBay Help page. If a reported listing breaches our policies we'll
remove it from the site.
Moreover, for your future reference, I'd like to inform you that your
listing was removed as it was in breach of our Inappropriate Seller
Terms policy due to the statement 'advertised elsewhere' being mentioned
by you in your listing. We exempt the listings which are listed in the
non-binding bids categories of cars, motorcycles, aircraft, boats,
caravans, trailers, trucks (commercials), services and property.
It is a violation if the following statements are included in the item
description :
-that they have the right to cancel their listing at any time, for any
reason.
-that their listed item is also for sale simultaneously off eBay (e.g.
local market),
-that the item was in stock at the time of listing but that it may be
out of stock at the time of purchase
-that the item listed may not necessarily be the one that the winning
bidder receives upon auction completion.
eBay's main objective is to enable people to trade. Therefore, if you
list any item then you are bound to sell the item and you do not have to
withdraw the item if sold.

They do really need to look at their customer service.
Ive jsut paid this months fees - just short of £200.
I cant think of any other service i would pay anywhere near to this for and allow them to treat me like shit....
Jeez the way its going my mortgage is soon going to be less than my ebay monthly fees. At least i can speak to my mortgage providor.

Funny though i never have an auction pulled for saying things like "cash only no camels , nigerian wives, big cheques form men with big beards etc" so i guess its right , they arent policing it themsleves or maybe their filter aknowledges end early, maybe try putting end erly - or reserve the right - reverse the right, just means someone will think you cant spell but hey small price to pay
