Before I spend hours trawling the interweb thingy for a diagram, does anyone have a Haynes Book of Lies for a Rover 1.4 K series 8 valve engine?
The little 214 I got off eBay in December came with the head off already and now I'm trying to put it back together I can't time the Camshaft. There were marks on it from the last belt change, but no corresponding marks at the crank. Tried timing the crank correctly and lined up the top marks only to find when I turned it over by hand there was definite piston/valve interference ::) ::) ::)
So... I need to time up the camshaft! Any one able to help???
Oh... And I know I should have got it back on the road by now but I couldn't be bothered with rolling about outside in the cold weather ::) ::) ::) ;) ;) ;)

Hmm... Just had a thought.....
I wonder if the crank was 108 degrees out :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
Still didn't look right at the camshaft mind as the "exh" timing mark was at an odd angle and not pointing to anything ::) ::)

Soz, my docs are for Rover 25 only, thus only cover K16 and K16VVC

Panic not... I stumbled upon a Haynes Book of Lies :y :y :y :y
I was right... Some spanner monkey hadn't bothered aligning everything correctly before the last belt change so marks were way out from where I'm putting it back together ::) ::)

tweaked above post...

remove crankshaft pulley at turn crank over til the two marrks are at twelve o'clock and are either side of the mark on the block
the cam shaft mark should be at 3 o'clock looking from drivers side wing
hth
must type faster

I've got the cambelt to do on the Rover 25 diesel in the next week or two :)

Likewise the MV6.
Ought to do the Westfield as well, thinking about it. Current one's been on there 6 years. ;D

The Westfield's a DTI and timing disk job, and last time I did it the engine was out on a stand, not 6" off the deck.

Should have had the head pressure tested ::) ::) :-[ :-[
All back together and it wouldn't start... Had a good poke about and it looks like it's still leaking water from the head >:( >:( >:( :'( :'(
It's not too bad on compression so it may be OK but it'll need work. Tempted to get it running and stick some of that wonder seal I've sen somewhere (not Kseal, better than that!) but don't know if I can be bothered! All in it's owes me about £350 so not horrendous costs, and I can remove some parts and sell on as "Virtually new"
That'll teach me to be tight and accept the odds that it should be ok!
Never mind... I'll break it for spares!
It's got a Peco Boxer back bow, although it's been butchered a little, which should go some way to recovering my costs :y :y
Anyway, I've enjoyed fettling with it.
