Similiar thing happened when I sold the old Omega...

Had it up for £900, some bloke come round who I could barely understand... offered me £200, going on about him 'having a buyer for it' and some other crap.  also tried saying:

The exhaust was blowing as he could smell the fumes
Rust on the doors was too bad (bubbling on the usual places, and even then less than the norm)
Went on about it being high mileage (130k on a 98-R) and that the engine will need replacing
Also tried fobbing me off saying the suspension was goosed as when he put it in drive and reverse (was an auto) it would dip and lift the rear as normal, but tried saying it shouldn't >:(

He got told where to go...

Exhaust was *brand new GM* fitted 8 months prior at Vauxhall for a tidy sum...  The only reason he could smell the fumes was because the chump had parked right up the rear of the car, I didn't even have enough room to open the boot!

Car also had full history, with receipts for cambelt & tensioners change just 2k prior to it being sold...

Sold the car the following day for £850 to some local chap, job done...

Although the guy that offered me £200 came back the afternoon after it sold with his friend and £250 expecting me to try sell it to him.  Kept trying to pressure us to tell him who bought it.  Bloody chump, he only understood when my mother (who had been listening in) had enough and came storming out with her walking stick in the air telling him to "break Awwwf" as Father Jack would say  ;D ;D ;D

Works both ways luckily.

I had a 2.0 Omega a polish (well eastern block anyway) bloke bought...advertised it on Ebay and after a couple of really hard too understand emails i agreed too sell it too him, tried too explain the clutch was slipping so bad it struggled too get going...however he just kept saying yes nice...yes nice.

Well he came he looked he liked he bought it.....yet again i said clutchy you changy yesy....yes nice he said. ::)

Oh well he seemed happy. ;D

Sounds like the type who think if they pester you enough you'll give in.

Had the same with a guy who came to see Emma's old Fiesta. Offered a fraction of the asking price and kept laying it on thick about how he'd gone to the trouble of meeting me, getting his mate to give him a lift, etc. well, he should have said what his maximum offer was and I'd have told him to break off and not make a wasted journey. Had to physically remove him from the car, lock it quick and walk off in the end.

Kept phoning incessantly several times every evening, making the same offer. Only way to end call was to slam the phone down. Told him I'd sold it for the asking price in the end. rather idiot. :-X

I hate selling cars. Best to keep them until they fall apart IMHO.

Kevin

I had the same hassle selling the Primera the other week. Put it up on ebay, kept getting messages from the same guy offering me £150 for it when the starting price was £400! I ended up giving up on ebay and withdrawing it - £8 wasted on listing costs! >:(

I ended up just taking it down to the car auction in Glasgow and I got £620 for it, so after the auction fees I got pretty much what I was looking for! The auction's the way forward - never selling private again! :y
