Title: cracked my windscreen removing mirror!
Post by: vauxfan2k on 01 March 2009, 22:01:28
Went out to the black CDX earlier to take the mirror off, ready to change to the self dimming type. pulling the mirror down and hlaf way it broke free taking the black mounting off with it and a chunk of glass, now there is a split right down my windscreen!!  :'( :'( :'(

I have windscreen cover on my insurance, but will they pay out for this?

im so depressed right now....

They should pay for it as it was an accident, you should only have to pay the excess.

difficult to say as you did it, rather than a stone or something hitting the glass  :-/

Yes, accidental breakage is the term, that's what you pay for. Last time I had a screen, I just paid a tenner, but they are clamping down now, you have to go where they send you for a new screen.

So ... you took the mirror off sunday evening, no probs, monday morning you are half way to work when this almighty crack appears in front of your eyes ( literally) .... that's what insurance is for (almost!)  ::)

Your insurance company won't mind, they will pay as your windsceen is damaged and now ilegal. I changed mine through the insurance because it was scratched (the previous owner must have not realised wipers are supposed to have rubber between metal and the window)
