I'm soon in need of some new home audio equipment, because mine's very tired now (decides to switch itself off when it likes). :-[ :-[

I fear that there is a generation thing here, all sounds a bit gobledygook to me, but each to their own ::)
-
I forgot my Trilogy Scart switcher and the turntable. :-[
The Amp was Sonys best mid range HC amp at the time period better than the 925 and 940
DVD-Audio and SACD sound fantastic
-
I've got cracklemaster amp, speakers and CD player ;D
-
I think there is a generation divide here which is no bad thing. We were all young once. I don't want to drive around with bass blasting my windows because 90% of the world think "What a cock" The bose does me fine. I think if you're serious about home music you can't buy it out of the box, separates is the way to go for real sound not just volume.
Equally important is what you play, that's the joy of separates, you set them up to your taste. :y
-
I agree, my Car was compitition based.
Tho my home is rather SQ than Loud, i love the sound of my old 1972 speakers. ;)
-
Talking of speakers, I tried for years to get hold of some Wharfdale E70's or even E50's. I also like the misson 703's and was actualy quite impressed with a mate of mines Tannoy 603 for which I have often tried to get myself a pair and would even still like a pair of the 603's or even 605/607's
-
Ok, here's what ive just installed, complicated i know, but i think it is worth the money.
First pic is the sound system, didn't want to go for seperates, wanted to keep it all tidy and room was limited
(http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m275/timbuk1969/97e6_1.jpg)
I thought this was the best value and picture quality is second to none on the market
(http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m275/timbuk1969/8b1a_1.jpg)
With the little cash i had left, i thought i would add a bit of class to the bedroom
(http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m275/timbuk1969/6bc3_1.jpg)
-
Christian I need to ask this mate, but why the His and Hers Chamber Pots in the front room? ;D

I showed you those photo's of my house in confidence ::) ::) ::)
-
I thought timbuk had been through the skips again!! :D ;) ;D
-
On a speaker setup, whats the .1 on a 5.1 or 6.1 system stand for, is it the sub or the centre speaker?
TIA
-
Yes its for the sub :y
-
I thought timbuk had been through the skips again!! :D ;) ;D
He certainly walked with a skip a few weeks back :D
-
Timex, you can through the Prison Photo's away now mate :y
One thing Big Winston taught me was how to spell ::) dont think i will THROW the photo's away just yet ;)
-
how about 2 pairs of quad '68's as speakers?
-

Yes I remember you telling me Winston had taught you to spell Moor or was it Moore or More ;D
-
The reason I ask is my amp seems to be classed as a 6.1 But has conncections as follows.
Main A (Pair)
Main B (Pair)
Rear (Pair)
Front Centre
Rear Centre
Sub Woofer.
8 speakers plus Sub = 8.1
or
Main plus rear pairs with Main B pair unused, Front + rear Centres then the sub = 6.1

Nice to know it will go to 135 Watts per channel @ 8ohms to piss the neighbers off before I move home ::) ::) :-X

Nice one Douggie. I owned a red s reg 120y back in the day & i'd happily thrash it back to that big old chaz'dave sideboard gramaphone, somewhere to put your beer & the sound was determined by how many 2p pieces you put on the stylus. Those were the days when wireless meant something completely different!!! :D
-
It all started with a pair of homebrewed speakers based on a Hi-Fi world article from about 15 years back.
Then pair of home brewed valve monoblock amps similar to the Mullard 5-20 (EL34 push-pull ultralinear). I also have one or two solid state amps in occasional use, all home brewed bar a NAD 7130 receiver bought second hand (about 19 years ago). :o
I've just built a DAC (I say built it. More a case of buying the pcb on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140303824575, putting it in a case and reworking the analogue output section which was clearly "designed" by someone who had no idea what he was doing). It's sounding pretty impressive for 40 quid now.
My CD collection now lives on a Linux based server encoded in FLAC and streamed to a couple of Slim Devices squeezeboxes, one of which feeds the above DAC.
Other sources include an Arcam CD player, Technics FM tuner (15 quid at a junk sale) and a Technics direct drive turntable (10 quid at a junk sale).

We're still using the Sansui amplifier and speakers we bought in 1975. Sounds excellent still, even though we have to connect the CD player (Sony, 1992 approximately) via the AUX input. The tuner, turntable and cassette player are all (full size mid-range) Sony kit of various vintages - we've replaced the Lenco-Goldring turntable and JVC tape unit we originally had. Don't actually know if the cassette unit still works - haven't used it for years.
The TV was a 24" Sony CRT we've had for 10 years or more, but it died 3 nights ago - haven't got round to taking the back off to see if I can fix it. We're managing with the equally ancient portable.
I've got an excellent full size Akai stereo stack in my office - bought it about 6 years ago for £4 at the local Scout auction.

my dad had one of those stereos, the speakers slotted in the side and there was 2 drop down flaps for the sound to come out the bottom. i think he upgraded to a ferguson music centre after for his james last he used to play non stop ;D ;D
-
Here is an old photo of my setup, can't seem to find any recent ones.
It's pictured with a Cambridge Amp, thats been upgraded to a Marantz PM2002. The speakers has been upgraded to Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 on Altacama stands.
Source is a Cambridge Azur 640 V2.
In the back am running a Tacima 929 mains conditioner, a Gotham GAC-1 interconnect 50cm, QED Silver anniversary XT cables with Air-loc plugs and a set of Grado SR80 headphones :)

Denon S301 2.1 surround sound system with Speakers on Stands in Silver perfectly matching TV. Evoke Wireless DAB portable lives in in Kitchen - accesses DAB, Internet Radio, Evoke Server. In garage wired to garden speakers is my old Kenwood system - cost a £1000 in 1992 but great sound and perfect operation even today despite the dust and change in temperature.

Pre DV575 I used the last PC build via 5.1 line in to the amp with DVD Audio - fantastic!
I didn't bother using the SB Audigy with the rebuild
-
That stuffs the cellar studio I posted beofre - in the front room I have a pretty poor set up (audio wise anyhow!). I've an an Eltax 5.1 processor/DVD combo (cost me 30 quid new, not bad for the money though!) with some cheap ass Wharfdale Modus speakers connected. But I do have a Phillips 42in Ambilight plasma and Mathmos Faze2 remote/sonic controlled lamp so its moody lighting all the way!!
Like wow man.. 8-)
