Title: fed up with feeling sh1te.......
Post by: sir moanalot on 28 February 2009, 09:29:59
so today I'm gonna go to tescos and buy some decent food and start to eat sensibly. i always seem to grab something on the go or make some crap food up cos its quick.
because of this way of eating i feel tired after a day at work and do not have the energy to exercise -so the cycle goes on and i either put on weight or not loose any.
this morning im reading through some healthy eating books and getting some ideas.
anyone else woke up one morning and thought the same or was it a forced regime cos of a health problem??

im knackered when i get home and later eat a meal that gives me energy at 11 o clock which keeps me awake till 4 !!!
my plan of action is a decent brekky (usually up and out without)
possibly a tuna sarnie at dinnertime and a decent meal b4 6 in the evening -with loads of water or water- juice mix throughout the day.
plus a 30 min bike ride during eastenders or the one show. :y

I feel a bit shit today, but entirely self inflicted...  ...I reckon a decent greasy fry-up will kill or cure ::)

Don't want to be alarmist but a mate of mine complained for 12 months of feeling crap, had a heart attack on top of a roof, and ended up having stents inserted into blocked arteries at the age of 42.
Long time smoker and eater of rubbish food. Biggest scare of his comparatively short life to date.
If in doubt, get your self checked out. He feels 20 years younger now.
Hope it's not that serious, but that you'll feel better soon.

I always make sure that I eat lots of fruit and fresh vegetables.
I make all my own soups and generally eat a healthy diet.

Try to avoid rubbish fast food like KFC and Macdonalds.

I think that my last sentence will be wasted on you lot though. ;D ;D :-* :-* :-* :-*

I recently switched from crappy food to decent, home cooked meals every night - partly as a result of SWMBO nagging me and buying me the Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food book, partly 'cos I was sick of feeling bloated and sluggish after eating junk.

The Jamie meals are cheaper, healthier, and I sleep better at night as a result of 'em. I'd recommend it to anybody!

Mind you, I haven't quit smoking yet and despite having a gym membership I haven't gone for months, so I've got a way to go yet!

I've been trying to lose weight all year, been going to the gym 2-3 times a week, playing badminton and now getting golf back on the go.
Cut out all the junk food and ding meals. Eating a lot more healthily.
Plus cut right down on the booze.

2 months of this and I have went from 16, 9 to 16, 1!

It's so f3cking soul destroying!

Before my mrs kicked me out at end of 2007, i was eating frozen meals and wa in bed for 6.30 every night , yet still woke u- feeling tired, went to live with my dad and my stepmum  was obsessed with fresh veg and chicken etc and within  2 week i was able to stay up till 11pm
Now i am back with the mrs and since she started full time work i am back on frozen tea and suprise suprise i was asleep on thurs on my coach at 11.30 something i NEVER do
So i now believe in fresh veg every day but what can you do when you both work full time?
There aint enough hours in the day as it aint fair on Tina having cook after a full day at work???

I start the day with wholegrain cereal (usually shredded wheat, sometimes cheerios) and try to have some fruit and veg everyday but let myself down by drinking far too much alcohol :-?

Some supermarkets now sell pre cut veg in bags you can microwave & serve with chicken (pre cooked if need be) & a pack of microwave rice, not the cheapest but filling & healthy.
A good way to start cooking is a stir fry. Buy the chicken breast & dice it, chop veggies of your choice (red & green peppers are cheap & healthy) & you can get tins of bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, fry the diced chicken off in a wok, add veggies of choice, add soy sauce, garlic, ginger, & chilli.
Hey presto. Loads of cheap, heathy easy food. :y

I've been feeling the same way for a while too. What has kicked me into action is health screenings I organised for my work, I thought since I was running it I should set an example and go first. They checked height, weight, cholesterol, blood sugar etc, and give you a health score out of 100. Bearing in mind I'm 25 and not overweight, I scraped in at 37/100, put down to poor diet and smoking too much. I was also told I have a 14% chance of heart problems in the next year - at 25!

So that shocked me into action. I found a great thing for eating healthy though, the supermarkets sell bags of steamed vegetables for a couple of quid, you get about 6 bags in the packet, and you just bang one in the micro for 3mins, and it's a full portion of veg, tastes fantastic too. I've started taking the dogs out more since then also, taking longer walks now the weather's getting better.

Just a couple of changes, and I fell a million times better. Not managed to kick the fags yet, but there's still time! :y

If you find you are constantly knackered ask your local witch doctor to do a Blood test for thyroxine. If it is low It means you have an under-active Thyroid Gland-and your body isnt converting your food into energy properly, if that turns out to be the case then he will prescribe some thyroxine tablets for you--I had it done a couple of yours ago and was quite shocked at the difference.

I have similiar problems..the solution(s)  I find :

less stress ..( I dont care everything now and let things happen)

regular long walks in lunch time..(discovered that it makes me fresh even at night jobs and can wake up easy in the mornings..)

only home food , soups and long cooked food..

less cigarette..

and more sleep as possible..  :y

edit :

my cousin 2 years bigger than me (45) and had a heart attack !

and as i start to loose it i will start to feel better she says
cannot see it myself but im no doctor
i did suggest starting smoking again she was not amused ;D

I question these government figures. BMA?, most of us are obese, Units??, most of us are helpless alchoholics. Most of us are blessed with enough grey matter to know we could do with losing a few pounds & drink a little less...wow big news.
Suddenly everyone's an expert. Nice to know our taxes pay for these non jobs. ::)

As others have said the keys are everything you probably already know: a good nights sleep/ eat breakfast/ dont overindulge in the booze and fags dept/ plenty of fruit and veg/ drink plenty of water/ get some exercise.
Me, well the other half is an excellent cook and we always eat plenty of fish, veg and fruit _well I do if Im home in time but with the hours I do at work I also have periods of living off red bull and fags!!Cant afford a lot of takeaways so thats sorted and dont drink much these days but still get periods when I feel sluggish and get headaches I cant shake off. On days off I try to be better, have a healthy breakfast , drink plenty of water and green tea, and do a bit of taichi. Like many of us I KNOW what I should be doing, but simply cant be arsed until I feel bad enough to do something about it and then its back to the fags/redbull/crisps. One day I'll get wise.....
