I`m getting fed up with shill bidders on eBay:
The most recent six 'auctions' I`ve been bidding-on (all low(ish) value items) with just me upto the final minutes of the auction.....then, suddenly a new "mad for the item" bidder appears (more-often with zero/v-low feedback)....I leave the bidding when I reach my idea of a max-bid and then the surprise bidder wins the auction; only for the item to be relisted just a matter of minutes after the end of the auction.
Blatant!............and sadly, getting much more common >:(

Its happened to me a few times to!
Ow, byt he way Debs, if you know of any old tractors for sale round your neck of the woods then give me a shout!
-
I hate buying from ebay for this exact reason... I only stick to buy it nows on ebay... It's totally unfair >:(
-
yes, drives me nuts too, and is just going to increase the use of 'snipe' tools.
-
Yeah I bloody hate this too, happens all the time. Its a joke. I don't think there's any such thing as an eBay bargain these days, sometimes its over the odds even, not even if some numpty spells it wrong!!

There are regular machinery/implement sales at Ruthin Farmer`s Auction http://www.ruthinfarmers.co.uk/maine.aspx?pg=diary (next one April 18th.; the catalogue is usually published in advance).....and I`ll also ask my neighbour (whom knows 'everybody' around here) if he knows of any Majors. :y

No no no no no. I keep telling you. A Thwaites dumper ;)

I used to use sniping tools for ebay, but haven't found one that works with my ebay cashback yet :'(. And seeing as I've saved a nice tidy packet in the last few months, I'd currently rather have the cashback :D
(saying that, I have a theory that I can use both - just need to test on a low value auction at some point)
-
From what I understand EB supply thier own snipe tools. Completely takes away the spirit of the auction as it used to be.

The fact that it has to run over a longer period means that it can't run like a 'true' auction.
I liked the use of snipe tools - partly to stop the sellers shill bidding, but also to prevent me going over my intended max bid ;)
-
TBH, If people are going to use snipe tools, etc. I don't see whey they don't just make the whole auction process blind. Just lob in your highest bid and see who wins when the auction ends.

Not sure if it was shill bidders when I bought the engine on eBay or it was genuine folk bidding using a sniper...

You can see the pattern of the bids... I put my max bid in a few seconds from the end of the auction (its how I usually work on eBay) so I still won it.
If I want something, I've learnt not to bid until the last few seconds, then just put my maximum bid in and leave it at that. I don't bother with sniping tools, if I'm not in when the auction ends, I don't win it... Simple :)

Wife pointed an ebay item out to me other week she had noticed this leather suite outfit (4 pcs) for sale 2yrs old as new no reserve well it went for £420, so she just watched the guys feedback just to see if the buyer was happy (but none appeared) then the suite was listed using same pics & everything by a seller who had bought it previously on ebay but with a reserve £720 said he had receipts for it etc but then it got relisted again later by original seller who said he had been messed about by the winner of it first time round..so the cheeky buyer was trying to sell it on at quick profit before he even paid for it and never did pay for it, so thats a new scam !! :y

Well i don't mind saying i nearly always shill bid on items im selling....end of the day i want the maximum price achievable.
Do i feel guilty...no chance why should i,a bidder enters his maximum bid he if wins he wins if he don't then the item was more than he wanted too pay so whats the problem.

Then its not a rather auction. And, RIGHTLY, against Ebay's rules. If you want a certain price, use the rather BIN option >:(

Naughty boy! An Auction is an Auction, you accept the max you can get,if you have a figure in mind then set a reserve.
Thats why I and no doubt many others stopped using Ebay--less customers/Bidders.

Shill bidding is dishonest and shameful......(yet-another) product of the 'me-me-me' generation, where distance and anonymity means "anything goes"! :'(

Either BIN or set a damned reserve!

There was a user on here shill bidded against me when I was after a cruise setup.
When the auction sold to him, he had the cheek to offer it to me at the auction price!

Shill bidding is immoral and wrong. It's also against eBay rules -not that that bothers anybody. If you want a certain price put it up at Buy it Now or list it with a reserve. Otherwise stay away and let honest sellers and buyers do the deals.

Hear! Hear!
But nothing will stop the chancers and wideboys, ( including the ones on this forum), from abusing the ebay system, or any other for that matter. The syndrome even pervades the financial institutions as we all know only too well.
All auctions can be a farce. Even some saleroom auctioneers openly admit to 'taking bids from the wall' on occasion, and 'shill' bidding in these places is virtually undetectable.

At times I dont think Ebay helps itself. As it's name suggests it is an auction site. It has become more of a shop these days.
I used to love Ebase 5 and hated ebay, they EB5 was boght out and shut down and all other sites fell by the way side. Now Ebay have added want it now and other tools there is no fun in sitting and poised to put a last second bid in anymore. Not againt having a shop and BIN etc but at least split the auction and sales into seerate sites/sections.
