Further to my post yesterday regarding replacement tyres for my miggy.
I have been offered "Nexen"at £60 each from Kwik fit.and "Wan Li" at £54.50 each from a local Tyre/exhaust centre.
Opinions please Gentleman. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I wouldn't put Wan li's on a wheelbarrow! :o Hard compound tyre ok in the dry and you get lots of miles out of them but terrible in the wet the t.c goes ape especially on the twisty bits.
I've recently got some Admiral tyres to try can't fault them £55 a corner for 235 45 17's :y They are using an old Kumo tread pattern

I've a pair on Wan-Li's on the front of mine and the grip, wet or dry isn't too bad, TBH. Only real problem is that after parking up overnight, they seem to develop a "flat spot"; such that you get wheel wobble through the steering for the first couple of miles, then it goes away. Cost me £40 each, fitted, from my local place. Not sure i'd have them again though. Rather go through someone like blackcircles or c-tyres next time.
They replaced some Nexans which were bloomin useless..
-
Ooops - mine's a lowly 4-pot, so 205/65's...
-
And still I suggest 215-50-16 .. :-/
or at least 215 - 55 -16 ..
-
I've got wanli's on 3 corners of mine, not really had any grip / handling problems, but they do make quite a lot of buzzy vibration on some road surfaces. Nankang ditchfinders were ok.

What model of Nexen?
I have 4 Nexen CP641 on the tractor, and they are pretty good imho. Cope well in Dry, good in wet, so-so in the snow. Awful in the very, very wet though - politest I could say would be 'interesting'. Little bit of road noise as well. Think I paid just under £50 a pop fully fitted (and remember that 225/55/16 seems to be an expensive tyre). Would need to check speed rating, but its whatever the manual said.
They are a million times better than the Avon ZV3's I had on the tractor before in all conditions.
Not sure I'd put them on the MV6 mind.
Remember, a brand on its own means nothing, within a make there will be better and not so good tyres. My favoured MV6 tyres - Dunlop SP9000 - is a bloody good tyre. Very good. Highly recommended. However, a Dunlop SP200 is a piece of junk.

Sorry, cannot agree there. Has to be Heinz. Which is a shame as I have a cupboard load of Branston beans that I got from cash and carry, but wish I hadn't after eating some

Agreed have Bridgestones' on mine atm and don't see any difference with the so called "budget" tyres I had on the old wheels.

depends on the model ..Bridgestone ER300 is performing very good on all dry and wet tests which I'm currently using on clit..
and even they can be compared with very expensive models..

Actually i dont eat baked beans so maybe a poor comparison... ;D
A tesco value banana tastes just the same as a waitrose banana but....im sure you get the point.. ;D
I think there's a lot of hype and snobbishness regards tyres.

Quite possibly. But I've yet to find a tyre that comes close to the SP9000 on the MV6 (actually, thats a lie, the Conti SC2 comes close).
Don't for a second think that even the best budget tyre performs as well as the top end of the (decent) premium brands.
But in many cases, decent budget tyres are good enough. But know the limitation of the tyres you have - for eg, I know my Nexens on the tractor have very poor grip in very wet weather (water streaming off the road). I haven't found a weakness in the SP9000s yet, despite using them for a few years.

Oh fully agree you cant say a £40 will act as well as a £150 tyre.
But a good budget tyre will be perfectly adequate for most drivers...how often does one actually drive towards the edge of the cars performance.
Just annoys me when people knock (look down there nose) budget tyres without trying them.

::)
One thing you need to remember, although you may well drive within limits of tyre/chassis, there are times you need to do something that may put you beyond that - eg, an emergency stop/swerve. Thats not necessarily a budget v premium argument, as some budgets are reasonable, and some premiums aren't great, though generally the premiums will be better (I'm not a fan of Avon or Michelin)

My personal preference is for the Dunlop Sport 9090, seems to suit the Omega well IMHO.
