Q) Why are so few people buying music?
A) Because they keep releasing crap

Personally I only really use youtube for nostalgic reasons as there is a load of stuff on there with old tv and music clips that are simply so hard to find elsewhere or else extortionately priced. For this reason alone its a very useful thing for me to have access to. Of course theres a load of dross on there but theres also some very funny and entertaining bits too. As for the performing rights part, of course the artists/ writers/ bands etc should get their cuts but in reality, just how much goes to them and how much to the multinational record companies?

When will the recording industry wake up and smell the coffee?
So, is the provision of content streamed at an extremely low bit rate to a 4" square section of your laptop screen and a couple of tinny speakers:
a) Free advertising.
b) A viable alternative to watching it straight off a DVD in front of a 36" TV with a decent sound system.
c) Doesn't matter, the content's sh1te anyway.
