Title: Looking for a large fresh fish market
Post by: stuart30 on 12 March 2009, 18:40:39
As title...the wife's been nagging me too take her too Billingsgate fish market in London but unfortunately they don't allow children under 12 on the floor.

Anyone know of any large fresh fish markets in England.

Distance not a major issue...but would need too cater for general public as well. :y

Shame you want one in England
There's a superb one in Seattle where they juggle the fish between counters!

Get your family down to Stanstead and onto a Ryanair flight to Cork in Ireland ((cheap as chips if you book it right ).Bus into City centre .20 mins , and visit the English Market .
It's the best fish and meat market I have ever been in. Catch lunch in the Market restaurant ( exquisite surroundings ,great service and the best of food at a very reasonable price ) wander around ,end up buying waaaayyy.....too much good food and then back to the airport for the return flight early evening.
The kids and the wife would love it . :y

AmigoMV6 ive had a look on google but it seems too broad a search...brings up whole sale and places that will send it via courier ect..

Grimbsy might well be worth a vist when its summer months..probably be small fishmongers selling real fresh stuff.

Cheers Nick i might hold you too that....mind you i might forget and collect them two weeks later.. ;D :y

Grimsby has a massive fish mrket, the trouble is, it is geared up for fish merchants, not the general public. I know they do cater for kids. Try the merchants association, I am sure they can arrange something, not too far for you either.

Went too a fish market in the philippines...every shape size and colour you could imagine, and some of the size of teeth was frightening..... :o

Mind you the stench was over powering...nearly 40 degress and no breeze or air con... ;D

I did think about taking a picture of the guy butchering Flipper but decided against..... >:(

Cheap flight to Galicia, Spain, any of the fish markets but you have to be up early. You will see that the Spanish love fish and land it from all over the world and make the British look like vegetarians.

Don't fly with Ryanair though as they would charge you extra to bring back a Turbot, Rosada, dolphin, shark etc !!
