Thats the one for me!

Its the thought of sitting at a set of lights with a boy racer next to you, you have a pack of bricks on the back of the pickup and you wipe the floor with him!

Perfect!

I like the Jags, understated looks, and supercar performance.

Super car performance, who are you trying to kid!

Performance maybe, but not in super car league!

The looks to me are to dated and the interiors cramped as most of the length goes on the bonnet and boot.

Bland, drab, another marque that has not moved on enough to allow it to survive long term.

But then to me, jags have always been average pipe smokers cars with average build, stupid price tags and 'issues'. As such, I have never grasped where there place is in the market

 :o :o :o

I love the old Jags, I used to have a '95 4.0l XJ6, it was a fabulous car...

If I did have £8k to spend on a car it probably would be a Jag, but I would be tempted to have a look at the Phaeton...

I have to dis-agree.

Massive Saloons that do the drag to 60 in 5 seconds, and in comfort, unlike the sports cars.

For me it would be a step up from the Omega, to follow your argument where does an Omega sit in the excutive market?

No one wants a luxury car with the Vauxhall badge on the front!

We buy them now cause they are cheap and get a lot of car for the money, no one here would buy one new...

The ONLY reason they sold was company car schemes, with the new tax rules, those sales dropped. Hardly anyone bought a Omega brand new privatly.

Jags have the engines the Omegas should have had, 4.0 Supercharged V8, yes please!

Tunnie, not once have I mentioned Omega, so stop the typing, read carefuly and get the brain working before spouting off!

The Omega is not produced any more as its market has passed, the jags days are also coming to a very rapid end as it has no real market any more either! (sadly this will possibly mean the end of the marque as we know it)

A Jag is not a super car, its far from it, its not really a sports car either (as this is classed as a car that can be taken from the showroom to the track) and 0-60 is nothing to do with super car status.

The super car description is defined as

Quote
Supercar is a term generally used for high-end sports cars, whose performance is superior to that of its contemporaries. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car with a centrally located engine",[1] and stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match", "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own",[

Which sudgests top end Ferraris etc!

I don't think Tunnie's trying to say a Jag is a supercar, just they can have very impressive performance figures.

Having owned a non-turboed 4 litre Jag, I imagine an twin-turboed 4.0L XJR would be guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face...    :y

Since lots of cars and brands have now passed what is it actually time for?

Most modern cars fill me full of complete disinterest.

Not saying the jags are supercars saying they have supercar type performance! Which they I think they do. Ferraris tend to get to 60 in 4.5 seconds or so, the Jag, 5.2.

And looking at whats left in terms of cheap RWD cars what is left?

Merc E Class - Too booring, and cheap ones have suspect build

300C - Looks nice, same build problems

BMW 5 Series, only serious replacement for an Omega, bit lifeless though.

Jag XJ, if i could afford one i would get the 3.0 Diesel XJ

Monaros

Not a lot left, and Jags are about the only things left that have something a bit special.

But if you don't find them special thats fine  :y

I'm hoping, in a few years, my next car will be an XJ.  It'll easily be 10 years old though still    ;D

That diesel XJ that Clarkson had on Top Gear on the Switzerland to Blackpool run was incredible!  I've always thought a diesel XJ was wrong until I saw that...    :o
