Title: 02 Broadband ! Any good ?
Post by: Dave-C on 07 March 2009, 08:00:26
OK, having my redundancy package from BT, this means I lose my FREE Broadband and Vision, got SKY +  fitted that myself... so OK for PVR functions that I'll lose with Vision....  currently got 6.7 mb with BT...  I quite fancy the Premium 02 package http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/ I already have an 02 sim pay as you go card which entitles me to the discount " If topped up £10 /3 months" I states 20 mb, well I'm only 1.2k from our exchange, so, if thats right I should get around 15 mb... good god I dont really need all that, but, I don't want to go onto a lesser package as it only has AVG for 1 PC or Lappy...  so Premium, if, all it says on the tin is true, should be fantabulous  :y

Any experiences with 02 ?????

o2 has been fantastic since changing to them in August last year. I had loads of hassle with Orange who I had been with previously for 9 years or so (via freeserve etc).

Like everything I suppose - if o2 gets more popular then service may drop off but for me is the best.

I have not had to call support since I started. Their set up is easy and support for set up first class

you been made redundant too dave? same here m8y! hope you got a good payout!

IMHO BT in all fairness offer the best broadband! the ping is consistant the data transfer rates are high and it never missed a beat with me ! option 2 is only £17.99 a month

otherwise try www.plus.net they are BT owned but alot cheaper than BT

o2 uses an LLU network so unless your local exchange has theyre LLU kit in it you wont get o2 broadband :(

unfortunatly where i now live Powys there aint no broadband exchange is miles away and the house is on aluminium :( ive got a 3 Dongle >:(

Yes our local ATE is LLU kitted, it's just that I've been used to opt 3 BT, the nearest spec for the right money is 02 for me.  As you say BT is quite flawless, but, expensive....

Thanks for the feedback, I'll click on your link, cheers :y

its nice to hear good things about o2 broadband, since i'll be getting it in the week, even tho i'm an o2 pay as you go customer entitled to the discounted rate, my girlfriend rang up yesterday to ask about her contract renewal/upgrade and they told her she can have free home broadband for a year! as far as i know, this isnt part of her contract upgrade (she was told its not due til april 13th) but she can have it because she's on a contract

so if you're on an o2 contract, give them a ring?

Like all LLU (same applies to datastream based products), it really depends on the backhauls which the ISP has from that specific exchange. o2 ones seem to be very variable, so only worthwhile recommendation if someone from same exchange can comment.

yes your right TB, I remeber when Bulldog fitted LLU in Cardiff and had 2x Les 10's back to Bracknell with about 2000 customers sharing a 20meg LES 10 lol that was however back in 2004 when LLU just started taking off!

O2 have won best Broadband provider 2x years running so they cant be bad!
