Title: Omega Brochure Repository
Post by: humbucker on 26 June 2008, 00:20:37
This was something suggested on another thread in the Gallery section but as I thought more people would read it in this section I figured I'd post it here...

I have a 1997 Omega brochure covering the full range which I was going to scan in at high resolution and convert to a PDF. I was then going to upload it to my website and place a link here for any of you to download it for free if you wanted a copy. You would be able to print out a copy at the same size as the original.

A few other people mentioned they had brochures from this year or that year, and others said they wanted to get hold of one or two, and I thought it might be a good idea to collate all of the available ones we have and put them all up for download as high resolution PDFs.

So firstly I wanted to see if there was much interest in this, and secondly was to say that I would be happy to scan the brochures in and convert them to high res PDFs, and host them on my site (providing bandwidth isn't too bad) if any of you with brochures were prepared to send me them for copy and return.

Rest assured if anyone sends me their brochures I would take super-good care of them and return them as soon as they were scanned. Of course if you can scan them at 300dpi and convert to print quality PDF without my help then this would be great too!

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

(Additionally PM me if you want to send a brochure and I'll give you my address.  :y )

Yeah - sounds like a great idea.  I might be able to find out what the rear sun blind thingy is for :)

It's for hanging a warning sign on, so the you can raise it when white van man is un your bumper.

I think the 2nd pic is the best one to hang on the rear blind

I actually have a pair of these some where that I bought in the late 70's early 80's never did fit them, or the Knight Rider Brake lights that I still have some where.

So THAT's what those rear blinds are for. 8-) Always wondered what use they were. Might have to get myself one now, although a Plod-style LED matrix with a few pre-configured "messages" would be more fun. ;D

hi all, update on this...

firstly, thanks to all those who sent me their brochures. theyre impressive and it was good to get a good response to this.

and now the bad news...

many of the brochures feature the entire range of omegas, rather than a brochure for elite, brochure for mv6 etc etc which makes them quite large in terms of content and page number.

when i tried to scan some of the brochures in, the weight of the brochure when spread out flat was causing the thread that binds the pages through the spine to 'tear' the pages at the spine in order to allow them to spread out properly for scanning.

obviously i did not want to continue and risk damaging the brochures that had been sent to me, especially when they've been kept in such good condition.

i've contacted the members who have sent me their brochures to explain, and im sorry to all that this has been a bit of an anti climax. best laid plans and all that...

maybe we will be able to source original artwork from gm instead? i'm not sure what else to suggest on this.

again, apologies to those waiting to get their hands on the downloads.

 :(
