Just checked where I live and it certainly isn't live yet; we are still in daylight according to Google Earth! ::) ::) ::) ::)

This makes me think; when everywhere is live will it show our areas at night! :-? :-? :D :D

I imagine that it may be a considerable time yet before my farm`s area is visited by the Google-Earth street-level camera car. :'(

The devil within me ponders: If only we knew when they were coming, we might plan something 'cheeky' to appear on the G.E street-level image. ;)

If you zoom out until the "navigation" line appears .. then click the forward arrow .... you dissappear  as do 2 other pedestrians, a cyclist and 2 cars ... :(

Something we ought to know about your locality ?? or just a good friend of Capt Kirk ???

I`m not sure if it applies to all G.E aerial images (as they`re sourced from varying providers) but the image set of my area has the "date image taken" shown in the data-bar at the base of the image: "2006"....actually, I can tell it`s 'early July' as the harvest was underway. ;)

Seems all very pointless to me, and the State Services I know do not need it as they use far more sophisticated systems to obtain real live images and sound, along with real intelligence, for their purposes! ::) ::) ::)

So who does require it? :D :D ;)

Yeh, great for when considering moving house.

Useful when looking to extend (you can see other houses with simlar extensions having searched the planning apps).

I bet the councils will use it!

Its also interesting, I often look at google maps/images when looking for say, routes of old train lines, historic items etc

I am surprised Mark you don't walk the old routes as I have often done, and really learn so much about them, along with occasionally finding an old historical item or two along the way. :D :D ;)

Very occasionaly.....but not easy on say the old city routes (Nottingham had quite a few with MANY tunnels)

Here is an example....

Thats where the great central used to cross Wilford road.....I can see it clearly from the aerial pics....I can now get a mans eye view to!

Strangely Mark the old Great Central line south of Rugby was a line I walked in the 1970s, before they demolished a viaduct or two and whilst in Nottingham they were dismantleling the viaduct / embankment  sections there.   I was brave enough (just) to walk some way into the Catesby tunnel which was a few miles away from my parents house in Southam, Warwickshire.  I could just imagine the "Master Cutler" express shooting through with an A3 at its head or simply a V2 pulling a fast freight! 8-) 8-) 8-)

It was as they were demolishing one of the viaducts near the site of Staverton Road signal box that I found a cod stoppered beer bottle that had no doubt been discarded by a navvie when building it before the line's opening in 1899! 8-) 8-) ;)  I treasured that find for many years and sold it for a few quid. ;)

Never got a chance though of exploring the line through to Nottingham as you show Mark!  Maybe once the new Great Central Railway have extended their lines to link up between Leicester and Nottingham I will be able to do so. 8-) 8-)
