Been very slow since teatime and beginning to wonder what the problem was.
Suddenly realised - my daughter is watching Waterloo Road and it failed to record, so watching it streamed via BT Vision.
This leaves very little for me to surf!
-
I think BT throttle the bandwidth at peak times too which wont help :(

The file size is pretty huge
I worked out about 0.5GB for 40 minutes streamed live so about 3/4GB for Waterloo Road

to Paris about the same.
I have to say though we're on a random IP addresses and it's normally faster on the 90.197 or 90.195 IP's, this is an odd 90.204 one.

BT Vision uses QOS and effectivly uses the Homehub to split the bandwith between the vision box & the Homehub internet bandwith

BT don't actively shape traffic from ISP point of view. Not even sure they could if they wanted to, as never seen the required equip at the home gateways I've seen.
Obviously, particularly for MaxDSL IP Stream based products (ISP irrelevant), exchange contention at peak times may be an issue.

Not true QoS, only half-baked attempt at QoS (similar to what I use here to keep OOF running as well as can be expected over a DSL line)

You're not using streamed TV at the same time. Also, I'm guessing (as you live nearer to exchange than me), you'r sync rate should be around 7Mb (seeing as mine is 6.7Mb on my BT Line).

Wow Important Subject ;D

Which is what you should expect....latency should increase (indicated by the larger ping time) but, throughput should be the same.

Wouldn't worry about it. Too many people get hung up on these results, despite the fact there are generally wildly inaccurate.

Getting this about 1.2k from exchange on BT..... Will do this again when on 02 on Wednesday... BT giving me 8kbps 02 have offered 10 kbps....
We shall see... fortunately my line is all copper .5 to the best of my knowledge, very little loss and balanced.
My son is on an RAF base near to Peterborough, his local ATE isn't ADSL2 equiped, they can only give him .5 kbps..... a bit shite really, not being updated 'til 2011 :'(
