Title: springs
Post by: tunnie on 28 January 2007, 16:56:16
just noticed that the Senny has some odd springs.

The rear drivers side looks brand new, it has 4 "loops" on the spring.

The rear passenger side, looks older and only has 3 "loops"

I noticed it coming back from the shop today, it was sat wrong on a level surface.

On the level the passenger side looks a lot lower and the car is at an odd angle, it can be best seen over the wheel arches.

Passenger side wing is level with the top of the wheel, drivers side about 2" higher than the wheel  :-/ :-/

I am not overly bothered, but it might explain some of the action the rear gives when being pushed.... will i have any real issues with it?

saw that at tescos but thought it was the angle it was parked at!! however sounds like someone had a broken pigtail on one which is an mot failure so they whacked the nearest one they had on which sounds like its an estate spring!!!! or an uprated towing spring!!! buy a pair off an Omega 3litre that being broken and put them on mate !!! same thing as a senny no worries!!

Not something I have the money for at the moment, got a spreadsheet calculating the costs and its getting higher. I still have to have money to live at uni!!

Can I get away with the springs being odd?? - The aim of the car is just to get around Europe, so its not going to be on the limit. Can I get away with as is?

Unless anyone has some springs going DEAD cheap?

I'm not!  I use a local Vx dealer for MOT (convenient for me, no other reason) and they completely failed to spot a broken spring - it was missing a fair chunk as well!

Look the suspension is vital at keeping the car safely on the road - get the springs OK, even try scrappers if necessary - but get a matching pair ASAP

D'oh....

I was hoping I could get away with it.  :(

Would springs from a mini-facelift '98 R 2.0 Saloon do?

Yep, he said 3.0 ones fit.

Are there any differences in the 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 Omega springs for the Saloon??

There is a 98 R 2.0 in the scrappy that was in fairly good nick last weekend, hoping i could have the springs off it  :D

Could the Springs be easily removed? With the car on its side in the mud!
