Post by: tunnie on 26 March 2009, 14:34:30
Who are you with?

I am using MCN Compare, the cheapest i have found is £315 fully comp.

24 Years old, zero no claims for bike policy (does car no claims count!?)

Parked in a garage, Yamaha MT-03, 660cc single. Datatool System 4 alarm.

Sounds like a reasonable price TBH for someone with zero no claims and recent test pass :y :y :y

When I had my bike it was covered under my trade policy Fully Comp, along with my van and 2 cars, but I was paying nearly £1k/year :o :o :o

This year I'm going with the Ebike PAYG policy. Works out about £35 a month.

It'll be there somewhere  :y. I'ts not at all obvious on my TDM and the oil reservoir is at the top ... effectively dry sumped.

I found the dip stick on the top, so the sump plug must be well hidden.

Think i will join a Yamaha forum, i think i give it a service when i get it.

no you can't use your car's no claims bonus
tried it before in the past
i had 2 years on a bike before i started driving and they wouldn't let me use it for when i started driving

I've been on my works policy for years but the rules have changed and I've had to get my own policy so I've only 1 year NCB, but last years premium for Fully Comprehensive on a H-D XL1200 was £78.00 .
Even I couldn't complain about that  :y

well I took the quote in end it went through express insurance on a NIG policy. went up to 430 quid after I mentioned my accident in 2007. got unlimited millage, free 90 green card. legal and accident cover. I guess I cannot complain, its my first bike

Well i had to pay for the card last time on direct line with the car, so its a nice bonus.

The MT-03 is not built for long haul, its tanks too small, but its nice to have if i ever change and get a cruiser

To be fair, most are only going to get about 130 to 170miles from a tank, regardless of bike!  The Tiger I've been looking at has a tank size of about 15 litres, and can do upto 45mpg, doesn't sound much, but still £20 for near 150 miles is still a massive improvement on the Omega! (CG still wins hands down as I am getting easily about 110mpg from that :o )

Out of interest, how much was the quote from bennets if you got one??  Ended up being cheapest for me at only £87, and I'm always getting offers and discount tickets through the post for biking events which they are part sponsor of which is nice :)

My old 250 averaged 80/80 once - took me an hour to do 80 miles and only put 1 gallon in

Bennets wanted a stupid price (around £700 plus!)

I got similar quotes for a 125cc but first big bikes seam to sting you, the ER5's were quite a bit cheaper on insurance than the MT, but for me its worth the extra.

One reason I got the 125 last year, build up a years NCB on the bike, and by time I get the DAS done and onto the bigger bike, it should help out a bit :)

Can't remember off the top of my head who I am insured with but £181 fully comp.
The ode Thunderace does about 150 miles to a tank which I worked out around 45mpg :y

The only thing I ever heard about sump plugs was that if it has a wire from it to the the engine it has been a race bike :o

Bikes built for speed dont have anything on them that isnt absolutely essential, unlike these old sports tourers. :P ::) ;D ;D

Now a fuel gauge would be essential Albs if you are roaring up and down all the time as you would need to know your not going to run out of fuel, but with your "Ode Mans Trike" you have not got that problem... :D ;D :P :-*
