May be a bit of a personal question but does anyone else on here suffer from sleep apnoea?
I have been diagnosed with it and started on CPAP therapy which seems to be working very well.
Apparently I was stopping breathing (for 10 seconds or more) 112 times every hour whilst sleeping. My brain would then have to wake me from deep sleep to correct the problem which is why I was feeling so tired every day.

Also contributes to high blood pressure !

Thats interesting. I didn't know that. I don't suffer from that at the minute but it is something worth watching. :y

Couple of questions do you snore much...and is it linked too being over weight.?
-
I'm 11 stone dripping wet and 6'2", normal blood pressure but snore like a pig. I stop breathing anywhere between 20 and 80 times an hour but only in REM sleep aparently. Never looked into CPAP as the hospital reckoned I didn't need it. Been 20 something years since I was diagnosed though. Wakes SWMBO up sometimes though when I suddenly stop snoring for 15 to 20 seconds at a time ;D

Quite probably -- the CPAP is designed to prevent the airway collapsing and also stops the vibrations that cause snoring. My snoring is directly linked to my weight ..... at 14st. 7lb I don't snore much ---- at 15st I wake the neighbourhood !!!!!!!

ive heard of this before, surely it cant be good stopping breathing and you body having to kick start you again! :S
-
I did snore a lot but I do not snore at all now that I am on CPAP therapy. It is linked to being overweight (although not necessarily, people who are not overweight can suffer with it too).
It is basically a case of the throat closing up whilst sleeping until you stop breathing. the brain then has to "wake you" from deep sleep to sort it out. Anything over 30 of these "incidents" per night is considered serious and I was having 112.
I feel loads better since starting the therapy! :y

It can cause severe tiredness and lethargy during your day if you have bad attacks. Like I say I only get mine in REM sleep of which I only get a couple of hours a night. I only sleep 3 or 4 hours a night anyway. 12 years of continental truck driving with 8 day deadlines to get from Ireland to Poland!!! Was a case of park up, eat, sleep, eat and drive all in 9 hours!

You should have that looked into again as i was told that anything over 30 was serious! :y

What does the machine sound like ? Last time I toyed with the idea it was like having a pneumatic drill compressor in the room !!!!! That was some time ago and I hope technology has improved things now !

Technology has certainly moved on! The machine barely makes a sound and is very compact.

Quite probably -- the CPAP is designed to prevent the airway collapsing and also stops the vibrations that cause snoring. My snoring is directly linked to my weight ..... at 14st. 7lb I don't snore much ---- at 15st I wake the neighbourhood !!!!!!!
Only ask as im a right pie eater....snoring is terrible.
Wife isnt over weight and snores (on occasions) just wondered if if it was due too the excess pies i carry. :-/

Hope you have more luck than me ---- the only thing I lack is willpower!!!
A few years ago I went to the gym regularly, dropped from a 40 to a 34" waist, actually looked a vaguely human shape --- but now .... blob rules !!!!

I tried one of those -- uncomfortable, but bearable, at the start of the night -- bl**dy painful in the middle of the night -- on the floor by the morning !!!!!

No offence, but your Doc should have had you checked even for "low level" Diabetes...

Congratulations on achieving that.. :y
Personally, I managed to lose one stone, but weight keeps fluctuating by 8-10lbs without changing diet (diabetic)... :-/

"Inconclusive" is I guess sort of good news...
The longer you can manage without Metformin and stuff, the better for you... :)

I judge it myself really, if I'm feeling a bid shaky during the day I have an extra sugar in my test :d
