what type of registered person do you need if you want gas work done at home?
-
Not CORGI......it`s been disbanded! ;)
-
thats it spoil it!!
its not been very well done either - you ask the majority of people that question and they say corgi. i havnt seen a single advert advertising the fact it is now 'Gas safe register' and its gonna play into the hands of a lot of unsafe gas workers and conmen
corgi is very much around tho - and are still a part of the gas business - they just dont make the rules and rake in the money
-
I only know because there`s some notices up in the builder`s merchant.......not much Gas work hereabouts; too rural for natural gas supplies, so mostly it`s oil (OFTEC) and some LPG.

Bloody typical, all our adverts in the local paper still say Corgi registered.
Why do they do these things, was there anything wrong with the system the way it was.

dont think thats right, think you can do the work yourself but before useing it has to be checked by a registered person, but i could be wrong on this

my take is .... you can work on gas as long as it's not for commercial/finacial gain!

It makes no odds, the quality of the work is still hit and miss (and rarely in line with the regs)

You have to be able to prove compitency

Corgi registration is/was no assurance of quality work.
A friend of SWMBO had a retired Corgi registered fitter, (a relative), install a new boiler and we constantly told her we could smell gas every time we visited. It was only when I threatened to advise the Gas Board that she insisted that he re-inspect his work and three times he insisted that nothing was wrong, but the smell was still present. Fearing for her safety and that of her neighbours, I insisted that she get a second opinion, whereupon the original fitter made a further inspection and admitted finally that a joint was badly made and was indeed leaking.
Because it's a relative she won't take any further action.
