Some explanation needed ::)
A Make is someone from Sunderland
A Takem is someone from Newcastle.
Ships, Sunderland made them and Newcastle took them and put them to use, in it's most simplistic term.
Generally Makems are a bit ..... well make up your own mind, my swmbo is one of them ::) ::) ::)

Despite living in Lincs i'm a southerner so don't take liberties son! My profession makes our isle my garden & i've found all folk from Co Durham (where i bought the Cortina from) to the borders to be friendly & a good laugh.QuoteQuoteSome explanation needed ::)

I guess being a Southerner doesn't help.. :-*
i worked in bishop auckland and newton aycliffe for 12 weeks, most ignorant people ive come across, hated londoners with a vengence. stayed in durham and redcar for the duration and drank there, redcar and middlesborough had a right good laugh and found the people great to get on with, had 3 women on the go as well ;)

i do remember walking up a very steep rd in durham to get to some club, by the time i got to the top i was half dead, never walked so high in my life in 1 rd, what a killer that was. and all the blokes were limahl lookalikes ;D ;D
Spent 3 years there as a student - very fond memories. Bloody chilly though!I remember it well!! Born and brought up in S/land - and although never a student, spent many a drunken night in there , and then stumbling over to The Manor Quay for futher shananagins :D :D :y
Mackems were very friendly to the student population ;D - would regularly deliver free furniture to your lounge via the window..... Always made me laugh the verbal abuse we got for 'sponging from the state' when the vast majority were on the rock 'n roll themselves!
Having said that there's some great people up there and I was attracted to the fact that the students union had the cheapest pint in the country......
