Title: Longbridge
Post by: STMO123 on 30 January 2007, 18:14:32
Just heard on the news that production of MG's is to start again in the spring. No mention of which models but, one good thing, the new chinese owners plan to employ a substantial number of the old workforce.

I dont think they had much trouble in the very recent past. But, if they want to f*ck about, the Chinese will probably just walk away, and quite rightly.

There mad....Longbridge and its workforce were one of the key problems Rover had....the best thing they could do is put houses on it and move to a totaly different site with a enw workforce.

As for MG production....they still havnt sold oll the old ones!

Wish they'd re-opened it a lot sooner. I've been trying to sell a house near Longbridge for a year now. It's in an area that a lot of Rover workers lived and now I've had to take a massive drop in price to shift it (and I do mean massive!)

I blame the unions and cynical money grubbing management for Rovers downfall. The workers in Brum in this sort of industry were always a little militant, which just led to union rabble rousers stirring up the trouble and in the end, having a workforce that didn't seem to connect the money they earnt with doing any actual work. I know that not all Brummies or Rover workers were like this, but having worked in a large factory in Brum that shut down recently and seeing the unions blame the management and govt etc. with no mention of what we all knew . . . the staff were crap and didn't understand the basics of quality or efficiency.

It seams to be a British problem, we can make good stuff and do make good stuff. We also have world leading companies, but its the unions and work force which is the problem... just look at the problems BA has with its Unions!

I think the current dispute is because the unions think that cabin staff should be given so many days sick leave on top of leave allowance (as per old civil service days, when sick leave were extra days leave entitlement on top of leave allowance)
