How do you go about renting off your local council rather than private(too many horror stories)??? My dads decided that he wants to sell up and move and make a fresh start in a new house/bungalow....And that means i`ll have to find somewhere to live as well....

Hi there
you will need to get an application form from your council, then they allocate you points and just have to wait till they make an offer....thats what happened with us...

In my area that is very difficult, unless you are on the waiting lists with so many 'points', allocated on needs i.e. children.
If you are made homeless however the system is the council have to house you in bed and breakfast whilst considering your suitability for council / housing association housing. ;)

You still live at home Bertie.....How old are you?.
There could be a long wait before you get a council property. :y :y
A lot depends on if you have a wife or other dependents :y
Telephone your local council ...........they should be able to help. :y

Is your Dad disabled? this would help with points. There may be an added argument that he needs single floor accommodation which would help.
The other way may be for you to have your Dad's house put in your name and then evict him and he would become homeless and as someone said the council have a responsibility to help him. :y

Dont know if that works these days, and also put in his name would that go againt him for the IVA situation.

My second sentence was intended to be a little 'tongue in cheek' not seriously suggesting he evicts his Dad. ::) ::) ::)
That said, he needs to think about the house situation, but was not thinking about his IVA :-/

don't let the iva stop you doing alot
if your dad starts to sell the house your in tell your local council that you will be homeless once the sale happens
they may put you in a sort of b and b more like a shared apartment
(not nice) you may be in there for up to 6 months before you get anything
then you may end up in high rise flats.

Find your self a female on the estate of your choice get moved in with her ...as there are loads in there own council homes :y

Main thing at the moment is to get yourself on as many lists as possible. Council and housing assosiations eyc.
Ring the council and ask for the homeless section and probe for as much advice at possible.
It may be worth saying you have had a big fall out and mention you could become homeless at anytime.
Keep notes and allways try to speak to the same person every time.
Regards waiting lists, have been doing a bit of homework for you. This area for example works on a waiting list. When a property comes on offer you then bid for it, unless there are single Mothers, marriage splits then it comes down to single people, if on an even footing then it is the person being registered the longest gets the winning bid.
Medical problems may make a difference.
