Its either the likes of

http://www.wedodigital.co.uk/product/2041/vason--15.0-portable-freeview-tv--dvd-player/vas-dvd150b/

Or a proper Tv and an inverter (which would probably be the better bet)

Thought inverters were pretty inefficient?  If so, running one for a weekend without hookup my be a big ask of the battery.

80-90% efficent....at least they should be!

Yep, some are greater than 90%

A lot of the cheap chinese ones aren't  :-X

Then the inefficiencies in the TV's PSU to step it back down to lower voltages (though most branded teles likely have a reasonable psu I suspect)

do you know if the efficiency varies with load demands and load types?

How about one of these    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Grundig-19-Digital-HD-Ready-LCD-with-Freeview-GU19WDT_W0QQitemZ120374079416QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_Televisions?hash=item120374079416&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

there are a lot of them about, under several brand names. I have a goodmans version which works OK, but its 230V AC only. A lot of the grundig versions have DC sockets for 12V as well. I say a lot of; the ebay one says DC socket in its ad, but if you go to the grundig site and check the manual, it doesn't mention the DC socket !. Ask the question before you buy  :y

Most definately.....higher loads will be lower efficieny as the I2R losses come into play within the MOSFETS, windings and rectifiers.

Very low loads will also be poorer efficency due to the magnetic losses being more significant

Just check both my small LCDs - a 5yr old Argos special in bedroom (analogue tuner/vga/scarts - decent little set to be honest apart from no freeview) and a 15month old Grundig in kitchen (freeview/analogue/dvd, with hdmi/scart etc - OKish, slow freeview tuner startup, and awful vertical viewing angle (horizontal is fine)), and both are 12v only, using external PSU.

May be worth looking around shops at 'portable' size LCDs to see if they are 12 with external psu

AA, I bought this one for my daughter a few weeks back and it's great.

Loads of features, including DVD player and Freeview, plus it can take SD cards...and you can hook up a USB HDD to record, too. :y

Oh, have I had fun with TVs in pikey wagons in the past! Just add an RF sweep generator and a well-hidden antenna. Moved them on faster than the Police.  ;D

Solution, bought a great £99 tele from Tesco Direct.

It's a 12v DC tele, with a 240v adapter.

On taking TheBoy's advice, made myself up a fused 12v lead, and we have a dual voltage tele at a fraction of what the caravan dealers are selling.

It has occurred to me, but I'm broke after buying the pikey wagon :D
