i went to my local stealer yesterday to get a sump plug seal/ring, he was gone for a while & came back with one, i told him it didnt look right to me but he said they dont have a number for the ring only for sump plug with ring, so he gave me the o ring on its own [well 20p for it], anyhow started to do oil & filter change today & guess what,,,,,yup it was the wrong o ring, so back to vx i go in my other halfs car & told them again what i needed, he was gone ages then came back with a seal for a 1.9 [or so he said], totally different thing altogether, its like a washer with a rubber ring bonded into the hole, he says "thatll do ya mate" so i explained that is was somewhat a "prick in a bucket" fit, i was then told if i wanted the correct one i would have to buy 20!!, so not happy with that i said "so if i came in for a service youd bodge my motor with anything that came to hand" >:(, with that he got a bit stroppy & slapped this thing he came up with plus another rubber ring & walked off!, so ive had to use the 1.9 thing he gave me as i was stuffed otherwise, it is holding as far as i can see at the mo but this proves what everyone says that going to vx for a service could be a dangerous thing & not to be advised >:( >:(

Sounds like he was one

I thought the o ring was part of the plug.....think it was on my 2.2, rubber part, with a magnet on the end of the oil end of the plug. Maybe that was on later omega's :-/ :-/
-
mine is an old 2.5 td that i believe has a crushable o ring i think they call it ;)
-
Measure the size of your plug threads for me. We have the very same rings at work for the hydro hoses i fit. I'll post you some :y

I'm afraid that's been long superseded. The customer is now a cow to be milked according to current best business practice. :'(
Ask your utility company if in doubt.

And I have a bucketload here, as my tractor had a different sumplug (due to helicoil)
Good job they fit the zx10, and the rover ;D

Silly me. You've fitted the plug & of course you don't want to remove it :-[
Well if you remember to give it measure next time you remove it & PM me & i'll sort some for you :)

The way I look at it is, the customer isn't always right...but he/she is always the customer, and without customers...you don't have a business.

Sounds like a dowty seal - same as you'd use on a coolant bridge.
Anyway, they don't remove the sump plug to do oil changes these days - they stick a hose down the dip-stick pipe and suck the oil out!

2 different sizes fitted to tractor. As said earlier, should get sump washer in oil filter pack (along with the rubber rings for filter itself)
-
yup i got the 2 rubber ones [one tiny for bolt end & other for canister cap] & 2 copper ones, one of the copper ones goes on the bolt head which is fine but the other doesnt fit the sump plug ive got, i can only assume that the sump has been played with even though it doesnt look like anything has been done to it, the copper washer that came off is 25mm [1"] across & the hole is approx 18mm bore, does that help identify it at all :-/
-
the one ive got is about 18mm dia, it maybe for the autobox plug
-
its not a g/box one ritchie as ive met them a few times!,the nearest thing i can find is on fleabay but listed as various landrover models,[perhaps a tad wider on O/D] now i know landrover used the same bmw 2.5 engine so perhaps theyll do the job :-/
-
In the Vx oil filters they always supply a copper washer (along with the rubber o-rings for the filter cap) but my sump plug needs a T8/10 to remove and has a o-ring bonded to it so I have never changed it.
Can replacement sump plugs be bought? I seem to remember Vx not having a clue when I asked them...
-
The oring is not bonded to it (well it wasn't originally..) and is replaceable.
Sump plugs are available too.
I've never received a copper washer with an oil filter of either type.. :-?
-

Always bought the 'O' ring separately, never had a problem, but then I usually buy 10 at a time.
-
I've usually bought them 1 for one with filters which I tend to buy 5 of at a time. Never a problem. Can dig out the part number if need be. I would certainly change it every other oil change.
-
Mine has probably lasted about 5 oil changes now, and I haven't got around to changing it yet - I have got an O ring set at home so I might just match it up if I can pop it out, never tried before.

id be interested to know if your sump plug is the same as mine being a similar year,on mine the copper o ring is a tight fit onto the plug itself & is of the crushable type, the plug itself is a 17mm hex head one, does this sound standard??

pattern fiilter, of GM? GM TD filters always come with the rubber seals for the filter and the copper washer(s) for sump
