Yes, it is a 1 year old 1.9 CDTi 150bhp (16V unlike the 120 which is 8V) manual Elite mum wagon (Zafira)

The facelift Cdx is staying of course!

bought due to fuel consumption.

I think I will settle for mid 20s and 51p a litre

Yes, with my annual mileage, I had to consider fuelcosts....and an LPG'd Omega cant get close sadly (I cant afford to loose the boot space either) plus I could no face driving a small Corsa type go-kart that sort of distance!

I wonder what consumption you will manage from it?

How long each day do you spend commuting?

Years ago I did 25 miles each way and that was a bind, mind you I used to take about 20 minutes!

These days I do 12 each way evening and school holidays, 17-18 school mornings.

Ah I see you've got a new 'Safira - sorry can't do the accent on here - that was a good set of adverts though.

That must be 2 hours plus travel a day - sad waste of time - think about how many cambelts you could be doing ;D

1 Year old? that must have had some price tag. Assuming around the 10k figure since you mentioned Monaro's

Since Omegas are so dirt cheap, i would have thought about getting another one, but sub 1k? a £800 pound Omega with say 100k on the clock, would easily do another 100k, and would leave you with 9.2k in petrol money?

Possibly, but you dont have a wife kids and house....and this was a  good price (cost) with 2 years trouble free motoring (warranty) and met the wifes requirements.

It also gives me an opportunity to spend more time on the facelift doing the likes of diff and gearbox fluids etc.

Was not your decision then  ;D

When you do your facelift diff, give me a shout, i would not mind seeing it done, as mine could prob need doing, along with its manual box too.

Will be doing both at the same time in the next month or so.....using BOA90LS oil for the diff (1.1 litre) and some super ester based oil in the gearbox (from Opie oils)  :y

While there is the excellent guide in the maint section, i am not confident enough to do the diff seal, so i might pop up if thats ok  :y

Good luck, be prepared for knackerd EGR valves, injectors failing and the car cutting out at all sorts of speeds, poor low down grunt and chocolate gearboxes, that applies to both manual and auto!!

If you chip it the gearbox will last about 45 mins longer than AR25 in a chipped 2.5 TD

Lol, did a lot of research before purchase (dealers, independents etc).....the only item that is an issue on them is the EGR valve which had a change from 2007.

The 17 CDTi, now thats a different story!

If Mrs DTM he wants a zaffy, let him have a zaffy, no matter how misguided  :P

I've been toying with getting rid of MV6 and getting something daft myself to reduce fuel bill (only around 55m a day, and about 2hrs)....

Lol.

There are a few known issues.

EGR valve clogging - common across all cars and easily sorted. Worse on short trips.

Particulate filter cloggng - Again, common on all diesels and clogs due to town driving (they have to get hot to self clean)

Dual Mass Fly Wheel - An issue which seems to blight every manufacturer sadly but, a much uprated one was fitted as per late 2007 which so far has seen no failures.

Gearbox - Some very rare issues which occur due to DMF failures. This is a very strong box in reality and used by many manufacturers (Getrag I seem to recall).

Engine seems pretty bullet proof, never heard of any injectors failing or major issues and cant fnd any real evidence of them ether (via the fleet reports or via my local friendly dealer)

1.9CDTi engine, same as fitted to Vectras? I know of 2 that had multiple engine related issues, unsure what, as being company car, they just went straight to a garage to fix. Lack of power and dropping to idle (had that last one on a Rover - software issue, but different ecu).  Could well be the fleet servicing routine, or the fact 1 of these Vectra's in particular rarely did more than 3 or 4 miles at a time.

Thats blocked particulate filter symptoms....common on all modern diesels!
