Just to ask for reassurance and comfort cos its the worst day of my year tomrw............MOT day........
Shes booked in for 8.30am so i dont waste all day bricking it.....
Car feels nice and tight now (thanks Mark DTM) but there is always the worry that it may well fail on something, and with our holiday coming up soon its an expense I could well do without if it needs anything doing to pass.......
Dont know if its a good sign or a bad sign, but my sisters Astra (that we have been trying to sort out) failed its MOT for the second time today on emissions again......
Please dear sweet Jesus let my car pass first time...........
PPPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Let us know how it gets on.
The quick checks I did sudgest no major faults (having replaced the idler arm and sorted the front wheel bearing play).
-
Well, just got back from the MOT, then we went Tescos and KFC (can afford food now!!!) to celebrate cos she PASSED !!!!!
Initially failed on.....
1. Headlamp aim drivers side too high
2. Exhaust mount missing
3. Remaining exhaust mounting not strong enough to support the system
However, I noticed the MOT tester adjusting the headlamp aim and the technicians fitted 2 new mountings (all done free of charge) so for some reason they gave me a failure sheet with the details above on plus the Pass sheet at the same time.
I also noticed the bugger tapping the headlghts trying to get them to flicker.........!!!!
No advisories at all, just the above bits now sorted.
I must say a BIG THANK YOU to Mark DTM for his total expertise and the care he has taken to help get the car ready for its MOT. He did some bits and bobs on it as well as a service recently and I am convinced his input has made all the difference to the results today.
Cheers and thank god for this forum !!!!!

Nice One Webby :y :y
Glad the bulbs held out!!!! You probablly had the fail sheet as well -- as I have learned -- this will help keep their fail rate up too. But their common sense prevailed and they gave it a pass after minor works.

Well done webby ,hopefully another year of carefree motoring :y :y :y :y

That's great Martyn!! :y :y
That garage sounds a real exception to the rule! 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)

It is very easy for me to come on and say "It passed, it passed" and I am genuinely over the moon, but I know how worrying MOT time is so my heart goes out to anyone who hasnt been so fortunate with their results, and that includes my sisters W plate Astra, which has failed twice on emissions now and shows no sign of passing.
MOT time is terrifying for people with older cars like mine (Y plate) due purely to the fact that it could mean big big bills.....
Good luck to those about to take their MOTs, I know how you are feeling..........

Problem is that it has a rough tick over and failed its natural idle test twice. Runs fine, just ticks over rough.
Mark has had a crack at it, but it still failed so dont even think it stands a chance. The tester that failed it said theres loads of unburnt fuel coming through.
Its going in to an emissions failure specialist in Leicester on Wednesday and they are having the spend £140 renting another car for a week cos the current MOT ends tomrw on the Astra.
So thats £140 gone before they even open the bonnet........

I took a car in two weeks ago which failed on rear brake pipes.
Whilst they were doing the test I noticed they were adjusting the headlamp aim for me for it to pass on that anyway.
Eventually I returned to get a retest but afterwards noticed that the headlights were way to high, I was getting oncoming cars flashing me as if I had my lights on full beam.......had to readjust them again.

Yep BTW congrats, I find it worse actually watching them do it through one of these viewing rooms. You keep looking out for facial expressions from them when they test something.
And I can't for the life of me understand why I had an advisory on the windscreen for scratches (not the miggy), I can't see any [smiley=shocked.gif]
Anyway my miggy's going in later this month so that should be interesting, but it's never failed yet whilst in my ownership......famous last words [smiley=rolleyes.gif]
