Joined a local biker forum a while back, and went for my first ride out with them today! And what a day...
Left mine at 9am, and got back about 7:30 ;D All in I reckon I did about 220 miles, all through Wales. There were 2 other 125's so I wasn't always on my own, the others would go off have a play, but they always marked the junctions and waited for the tail-enders before moving on which was nice :)
Makes me want to get my DAS done and out of the way so I can get on the bigger bikes and play myself :)
Took some piccies, made a GPS track (although my battery died when we got back to Bala), its all good!!

And seconded, good going Paul :y

Just added some more pics (altho the GPS positions are messed up on the new ones...) I didn't even think I'd done as far as I had until I looked at the track & added on the journey home from Bala ;D

i have trouble doing 100 mile trip on my 660 cc :o
Went for a blast to Banbury yesterday with TB, turned out we did a 60 mile blast though the lanes, very enjoyable ride out.
Keeps reminding me we should do an OOF biker meet up :y
-
Looking at your map Paul, Burton on Trent sounds like a good place to meet up?

Bet he could show me a thing or to with him on a Pan!
Humm Burton on Trent says 75 miles from here for me (not going the direct way)
Most i have done is 90, was starting to feel it then, that said that was before i had the zorst fix, which has resulted in a lot less vibration

Get a few miles under your belt first your arse and wrists will get used to it. Then organise something, just a nice ride out nothing daft :y

Sounds like a plan Daz :y
Need to get some lube for the chain first though, its looking a bit dry!

I am hoping the place in town is open tomorrow fancy having a tinker with the bike tomorrow, after its had a wash and a bit of a run though 8-)
-
I was advised against a Scottoiler by a few mechanics, as they say they are pants, but lots of other folk recommend... I duno...
I use the Silkolene Chain Gel, works ok for me, but I guess for folk whose chains are on show, it can make things look messy...

Chains are there for a job, and an important one at that. I think i would rather have a mess looking functional one, that a shinny one on the verge of breaking!

If you get some Paddock Stands it makes it easy to do your chain, wheels off loads of stuff can pick them up cheap too. Plus over the winter when you perhaps dont use your bike they also save your tyres :y

Must admit, can't see me lifting my MT on one, i have enough trouble pedaling it around the garage! ;D

They are easy to use Tunnie honestly, you can get a front and rear for about £40 and they lift on easy.
Chains are very important, make sure it is tight enough..... I had one years ago when I was learning jump off as I hadn't kept my eye on it and it was rather worrying :o
-
i might have to look into one, should really give the bike a service at some point, but its going to get GM oil, coolant, brake fluid and spark plug ;D

Agreed :)
I need to do mine again tomorrow, aswell as check the tension after todays run!
I wouldn't put the GM oil in the bike though, get some proper 4T oil... but the coolant should be ok :)

Vauxhall Oil is fine, I use it in my Bike and it is no problem, doesn't make the clutch slip like people seem to think it will. I asked Mark and there isn't whatever it is that makes clutches slip ;D cant remember what it was now ::)

Fair enough, if its tried & tested fine I might do the same, but get the fully synthetic.

I also use vx oil in the Honda, after it didnt blow up the engine in your fizzy I thought I would give it a try and its been fine, not sure if something more modern like Tunnies bike would be ok using it,might be best to check first.
I had a scottoiler on my old gpz and it was brilliant, the chain never seemed to wear.A well respected engine tuner who I met told me that all these chain lube aerosols etc, are snake oil,he reckoned clean engine oil was as good if not better than any of them,so my chain now also runs on vx semi, and seems ok. :y
Re speeding fine Daz,just paid the £60,and handed in clean licence at local nick so they can make it all dirty. ::) :'(
Paul,no need to bother with fully synthetic,I dont.If your on a really high performance bike and thrashing it on track days etc then you would need it but in your case you would be wasting your money. :y

I am only going to mention this once, I went out on a Bogger like yours when the newer shape came out, the old bogger looked like a small Bogger 1000 which I didn't like at all but when the newer shape came out I had one for a few hours as I had an "Elsie Fizzer" at the time. I was just as mad as the "Elsie Fizzer" but faster and if I would have had the money would have bought it straight away.
Anyway thats it never to be spoken again ;D :P

They are a fun little bike tbh mate, plenty quick enough for public roads,(too quick according to Essex constabulary) ;D
But also pretty comfy for a bit of distance riding etc, mine is the first of the alloy frame/last of the carb models.(Dec.99) :y
I reckon you would like a ride on my mates race elsie,it goes like excrement of a highly polished digging implement (shite off a shiny shovel) ;D ;D
Not sure if the vx oil would go through a scottoiler, might be too thick, may need something thinner, only one way to find out though. :y

A Bogger pulled at the side of us the other day whilst in our car and I had to laugh, Mrs. Loo-knee wondered why I was laughing so I told here about you and your Bogger ;D
Really nice bike mate :o dam I said I wouldn't say it again ;D
As for the Elsie I would have another tomorrow but they are fetching silly money :o

Anyway back to the original thread ish ;D
If we have a Forum Ride Out, where would a cental meeting place be best??
So we would need to know who would be intrested...

That elsie I mentioned is apperently pulling about 140mph on the straight at Snetterton. 8-)

Very true,we usually run out of bottle/talent well before the bike does. :y

quick question, can i use Carb Cleaner on a bike chain to clean it up a bit? :-/

I too used Vx semi synth in the zx-10, and before that used any old semi synth. Been fine for the past 6 or 7yrs on it ;)
-
Just been reading through the thread regards a bike meet. Am not a biker but may have an idea for you all.
Like the OOF Members map, why not start a new one just for OOF bikers. When you tag it just put your Name and Bike. But for security put your flag in the local supermarket, McDonalds or Pub car park. This would help members for meeting up.
Then as the map grows then add suggested meeting places with different coloured flags. Just a thought, hope it helps. :y
Posted in the other thread as well :y

quick question, can i use Carb Cleaner on a bike chain to clean it up a bit? :-/
Either proper chain cleaner, or a rag lightly moistened with paraffin.
Don't saturate the chain as you may wash the grease out of the rollers and don't use petrol, it'll knacker your o-rings.
:y
-
Well I've just done an oil change on the CG, and used the 10W40 semi, seems ok :) Need to do it again in a week or so, as the oil was pretty black, so need to clean the centrifugal filter aswell (apparently an interesting job)
Still, cleaned up the other filter and other bits with a bit of petrol I siphoned out of the tank! Seems to be ok with the VX stuff, so guess I should buy a 1ltr bottle to keep with the bike while I'm out ;D

As I said to you the other day tunnie, parafin ;)
-
quick question, can i use Carb Cleaner on a bike chain to clean it up a bit? :-/
I would say no. carb cleaner can and does react with rubber and if you have an 'O' ring chain, will probably bugger it.
If you need somethign stronger than paraffin, use brake cleaner. at least thats safe for use around seals etc so should be OK with the O rings....
And I also place a vote for a Scotoiler rather than spray grease etc. Its better to systematically adjust the flow rate on the oiler to get enough but not too much oil onto the chain rather than have a shed load of chain grease atracting road dirt and crud and turning the lot into grinding paste.
Its the loss of the oil that washed the road crap out the joints, apparently.... :y
ps - and, if using a scotoiler, the real stuff looks and smells remarkably like Dexron 3 atf.... :y
-
I have a scotoiler on mine and it certainly saves remembering to lube the chain but I have to do a visual check regularly.
There is another device that I haven't tried although I have heard it recommended: http://www.pro-oiler.com/ which has benefits in that it is more careful about how much it feeds out.
