Just sat here on my Lappie, a Toshiba Portege touch screen model and its just made an ear splitting squealing sound and now no sound, so looks like its a trip to the PC doctors, >:(
-
No idea.. :-/
-
Give it a reboot......more than likely sound will return :y
Sounds like the sound card driver got its knickers in a twist.
-
Just tried that and no go, tried the settings etc but all to no avail, bugger :(
-
my gut feeling from the description is you will never hear a squeak from that machine again.
And if it is hardware, on a laptop, it can't be repaired.

Often rather expensive, and a bit bulky...

Maybe just time to buy a new lappy, this one still works fine other than the sound. :-/

Not now - last one I saw was relatively small and cost around £25

No worse than a USB memory stick or some of the things that can now be connected through PCMCIA. Can always remove them if carrying laptop.
Cheaper solution than buying a new laptop ;)

Yup, its an extra option for OP. Not quite mike USB key etc, which you only have plugged in when you are actually using that device, sound card needs to be in more.
I guess a short 6" USB A Male to USB A Female adapter would prolong its life ;)

Actaully, guessing it will only work with external speakers headphones, so bit clunky
-
mmmmmmmmm seems like a lot of wires and bits and bobs, sort of takes away the portability of a laptop, may just keep this for as it is as it does everything else very well and look to buy a new lappy if this cannot be repaired, seems a shame if it cant, it cost a bloody fortune when new, mind you it has never fallen over before.
