That's so interesting Omega-man, as a number of the young adults I come into contact with at uni feel the same way! ;) ;)

I grant you that Kris, but over 180 members have posted over 400 times. ;)

But best of luck to those who do like using Facebook, as I know hundred of thousands do in the UK (pop. 61 million) :D :D ;)

tbh i didn't even know that we had a page on facebook, not that it matters.
but a question with regards to the previous posts...
what is better to have??
180 members that regularly post?
or over 4000 that do it when they have the time??
In my opinion i think it is better to have 180 regulars..... :-? :-? :-? :-?

Age has nothing to do with it...
i find some of these comments a little offensive, i'm 34 and a trucker, so i'm not in the older bracket or the teenager bracket.
I use facebook to keep in contact with family and friends around the country.
Just because you may not have enough friends to warrant a facebook page doesn't mean that other users should be tarnished with the same brush !!! >:( >:( >:(

Sorry love but cool it a bit! ::) ::) ::) Why do you find my comments offensive?? :o :o :( :( :(

If you read this thread properly you will see that I DID myself use Fb for two years, and had hundreds of friends, many I knew and still know at University, let alone around the country!! :D :D ;)

The point I was making, backed up interestingly by an 18 year old, and echoed by many "youngsters" at uni, is that it is NOT for everyone.  That's all!! ::) ::)

Many like, but many do not.  What is offensive in that fact!! ::) ::) ::)

In fact I find your comments suggesting I do not have friends (because I am not on Fb?!! ) offensive mate! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Indeed! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

But once again somebody expresses an opinion on the OOF, in this case me, and you end up being insulted, as we have seen recently in other threads!!

Is no one aloud to express opinions nowadays??  Is this the type of society we have now?? ::) ::) ::)

I believe in free speech, with the freedom to express opinions, but without resorting to insult.

To make it clear I fully understand anyone wanting to use sites like Facebook, which I once did.  That's it, no argument, no suggestion I believe no one should, just that I do not want to along with hundreds of thousands of others!  What is wrong with that?? ::) ::) ::)

Thanks SidewaysMV6!! :D :D :D ;)

It just feels at the moment that placing anything on the OOF, including trying to give members assistance, is like walking on eggshells ready for the next obscenity or insult!! :( :( :(

This, as I have stated before, is spoiling the enjoyment of this site and gives me reason to think is it worth it??!! ::) ::)

Lizzie has simply expressed her opinion. In no way  has she been unpleasant or insulting in what she has had to say.
But ,I do think that your comments regarding Lizzie as having no friends has been said with a certain amount of venom.

No Kris he did not say "no" friends, but what he said was bad enough.  In anycase, emotions aside, what are these "friends" who fill a page on Facebook (don't forget I have, and still have them!!)?  They basically are people just 'collecting' other people to see who can collect most!! ::) ::)

Yes many will be known to you, and be great physical friends, but the vast majority of possibly hundreds you will collect you will never know!!

Once more, I am NOT knocking it, but it is just not for me, especially since they redesigned  the Fb site. ;) ;)

Being a relatively fresh face on this forum (if not in real life) :( I have always found Ms Zoom's comments to have been balanced, informative and amusing :) indeed this forum benefits from such a rich collective of opinion.

Regarding FB I would have thought that in todays surveillance society the less we revealed about our personal circumstances, the better :-X

Please don't do anything too rash Ms Zoom, this forum would the poorer without you :y :y

i reply to every message put on facebook, i have about 57 friends. seems a lot have friends for the sake of it, i cant see the point of it to be honest. its more down to insecurity and wanting to improve ones image as mr or mrs popular. my profile is private and it will stay that way. ive nothing to hide so nothing to worry about.

Like most things in life Facebook can be mis-used. Im an old git ludite at heart and dont see the point as, if I want to talk to someone Ill either pick up the phone or maybe even write them a letter! FFS Im only just getting the hang of this internet lark and cant even text!! ;D.That said, I know an awful lot of people, including workmates and my kids, who do use it a lot and, in itself, I dont see anything wrong with it BUT I do know a lot of people who have got themseves in a fair amount of sh*t with partners/work through using Facebook!!Whether this is simply down to their own stupidity is a moot point but personally Id worry about the whole privacy factor of Facebook/msn etc..

I've recently joined facebook despite reservations already stated. I have asked everyone to stop sending me egg, heart, yo'ville, mafia & god knows what else requests which they have done as i've no time to sift through them every night, each to thier own though.
On the plus side I've got in touch with an old schoolmate & a lady friend i always had a thing for (we never did too complicated back then) but it's great to chat to her now. I also love my facebook farm. You only talk to registered friends & few OOF members are on there.
