Oh well I have applied for another load of finance to pay for my third year at university, which will considerably increase my debt from the current £16k to over £25k once I finish the course next year.
Educations not cheap, and when I think how much the international students I study with have to pay out per year!......well I suppose I'm lucky and after all it should give me dividends in the future if I live and work long enough to reimburse the Government!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)

I wish!! ::) ::) ::) ;)
IF I did go into politics I certainly would freeze road tax on all vehicle (except 4x4's which I would lift by 5 times the current rate; agricultural use would be exempt however for farmers like Debs! 8-) 8-)), ensure all roads were brought up to standard, and also ensure a fully integrated transport system was developed with a vastly extended rail network. :D :D :D ;)
Hang on though, first I'd have to ensure the financial disaster caused by Brown & Co is cleaned up, and I will probably be dead before then it is that bad!! ::) ::) :( :(

In my view Lizzie ......................it was a disgrace when tuiton fees were first introduced..............and I was further pissed............ that it was a LABOUR government .......that started it all. :-/ :-/( Hang your head in shame Tory Blair......)
I believe that all education ...for all people ...especially the poor......should be a RIGHT .........and it should all be free of charge.......paid for by the taxpayer. ......(yeh....I know it's not really free)
One problem..........that we do have now though...........is the number of people going on to university............about 44% ...at present .....with the government hoping that this figure will rise further to 50%..
When I left school in the seventies ...............I believe that the figure was well under 10%.
Anyway .......with regard to tuiton fees ..........a precedent has been set .........unless you are Scottish. :-/ :-/ :y

You are soooooo right Optimist!! :y :y
It is unrealistic to believe that 50% of school leaver should, want, or need go to university. But the universities are now big business, part of the capitalist system that New Labour (socialist my arse!!) have bought into. The name of the game with these establishment, commercial concerns (and I see proof everyday), is to make profits and not necessarily provide the best education for it's students! ::) ::)

I am sure you are decades away from it but when I took out my student loans if you hadn't repaid by the age of 54 they were wiped clean.....is that still in effect on loans of today...?
*ducks from impending swipe from LZ* ;D ;D ;D ;D

No Gaffers, I am living proof that there is no time limit on paying back the loan, just that if you earn over £15,000 per annum then you will pay back a scaled percentage of your earnings until your account is clear. So the debt remains after 54, but of course I am years away from that!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ;) ;)

I agree to an extent.
The trouble is though that there are to many noddy degrees now, so if the fees were to be abolished then they should only be abolished on degrees with value and those recognised by the relevant industrial and institutional organisations.
I mean, there were course on electronics and media plus all sorts of other bobbins which meant you learnt jack all about either!

probs the biggest reason why i didnt go on to uni when i finished 6th form a year ago... i dont want to start my working life already in debt (my cousin, although not at uni, has loans and credit cards etc... and only a year older than me)... im more than like gonna spend most of my life in debt... so less more time i aint in it, the more time i have to LIVE...

Bring back grants, get rid of noddy degrees and drop to no more than say 20% of schoolo leavers, we don't need 20,000 media study degrees
