With my Merc this time......you'll be getting fed up with me soon ::)
Ok its complaining of glow plug failure....warning light comes on after starting.....i know its good practice to change em all...i dont have a code reader for it so dont know which one it is complaining about?
Is there a way to measure the resistance of them....to identify the faulty one/s ??
Went into halfrauds today to buy a complete set....bout £40 ish.....but they dont have em for my merc :(
and was told dealer only part......so not wanting to be shafted by merc dealer...id rather just find which one/s have failed and change em :y
Prolly a question for the diesel omega owners?
Cheers

You know you shouldn't say things like that on here TD, it's just asking for trouble ::)
-
I'm fed up with you TD >:(
Only kiddin ;)

Only kiddin ;)
Thats ok then :y ;D
No tractor drivers about then :-/
-
Sorry TD, as you know I burn pure 97 RON, not the oily greasey stuff you call fuel! ;D
-
drop a V6 in there.... that should stop the glow plugs problem ;) :y
-
Try local motor factors - Halfords cannot expect Merc to have a monopoly on glow plugs surely :-/ and put in a fresh set - no need to meddle with resistance then ..... BTW what if you find the dodgy one.... are you going to hand over £20 for a new one :-?
-
I suggest you try posting the question in one of these forums:

Did you get the MB P/N off the old plugs?
If you do have the MB P/N, I can try and find out who makes them (prob Bosch or Lucas etc) and see if I can obtain the equivalent OEM manufacturer's P/N for you.

If i was keeping the merc, yes i would change em all.....but im selling it and just want to get the warning light to go out.....as im sure a potential buyer will spot the warning light.
Im going to have a go at seeing if i can find the faulty one/ones this morning and then try eurocarparts for them....if i carnt identify the faulty one then yes i will change them all. :y

Havent even taken em out yet MJ....job for this mornning....
BTW i used to be a member of a merc forum......and tbh i get more help from this forum than i did off the merc forum......answers, if i got any where either wild guesses or take it to MB dealer :(
-
I think europarts do merc stuff at nicer prices
-
Success!
Engine cover off.....located glow plugs....off with electrical plugs and metered each plug to engine ground....one was 0.4 ohm the others were open circuit....so pretty good proof i had 3 knackered glow plugs and one working one. No wonder it took its time to start in cold weather!
Got replacements from eurocarparts.....got 4 of em....about a tenner each.
Had to buy extended 10mm socket and blimey they were in tight...i was trying not to force them too much in case they snapped...but slowly they did come out with a lot of squealing going on! I did liberally spray wd40 on them 1st....and may of been better letting it soak in overnight :-/
Anyway they came out and new ones went in ok....bit fiddley with the fuel pipes getting in the way.
Ignition on glow plug light came on then after a few secs went off (as its suppose to do) gave it a start and glow plug light stayed off (as its suppose to do) :y
So if any diesel omega owners are reading this.....then yes you can test the glow plugs by metering them.....open circuit they're knackered.....reading of about 0.5 ohm and they're ok :y
Another garage bill saved :y

Result :y
Now post it on all the Merc forums.... ;D

Result :y
No post it on all the Merc forums.... ;D
Cheers MJ....be a waste of time....they'd still advise letting MB dealer do the job ;D

Don't you just love a happy ending ::)

Well i was thinking when i was carefully undoing them......dont you dare snap off on me....otherwise Tunnie would have posted 'So im not the only one that snaps things off' .... and Mark would have called me stupid as well ;D ;D

Cheers guys :y....btw the Tunnie.....dont know if you remember the rattle that was coming from engine cover on my merc when the engine running..if i held it the rattle stopped...and we discussed about shoving summut in there to stop it....when i had the cover off...i discovered 2 screws were loose holding that bit on, so a quick tighten sorted that out too :y

Ahh yeah I do remember that. Glad its sorted. Your Merc does prove the older Mercs are built very well, big miles and only a few minor probs...
Not so sure about the new ones!
Are you going to get a replacement? Buy another merc?
-
Ummm no prob not....too expensive to run as private hire...Omegas are 1/2 the price but have probs :(....as ive found out :(
Just need a screen for the merc....and a blower fan....be interesting to see if my dad can fix it.....i told him the blower fan is kackered....he told me to bring it over...and he'd have a go at repairing it...he used to be an electrical engineer...and yes a proper one....before he retired...hes 82 now....hes told me he can unless the windings have gone....then its not a job for him....so have to see what he can do.. :y
So i dropped it off tonight....and had a lurvley sunday dinner too :y
