Mondy tdci's are excellent except for the rear subframe bushes and possible leaky injectors.

Octavia's are bulletproof mechanically, but wear quite quickly. The gearboxes tend to wear very quickly, but keep going. I have heard a few stories about the gearbox casings cracking.

Passats tend not to be used for cabbing as much as the others, but I do know the timing belts tend to need replaced quite often, and its not exactly cheap due to the longitudinal layout.

Hope this helps. :y

I ran my own taxi company for 5 years til last year. I had VW Passats, 1.9 tdis, (not the new shape),and i can tell you they are fabulous cars. The fuel consumption is unbelievably good. My V reg had 241k on the clock and around town i would get 45-50 mpg and on the motorway it was around 70mpg. The timing belt is a nightmare to replace, the whole front of the car comes off, bumper, radiator the lot,and they are quite soft on the front wishbones. These cost around £50 each to replace. Really comfortable ride,im 6ft 2" and had plenty of headroom. It has a spacious boot, nice interior, loved the red and blue dash and in my opinion is a really handsome car. I would buy another without question. Hope this helps. :y

I really think the current Mundano (and the previous one as well) are pretty good cars.  And, certainly around this way, a good set of dealers (from a customer service/car side).

The VAG cars are reasonable, good strong, if somewhat uninspiring engines, maybe a tade cramped for adults in the back (not sat in the back of new passat though).  Can be bloody expensive come servicing and repair time though. Dealers around here seem to like to get any major service to cost around £800 :o
