Title: Water from de-humidifier
Post by: shyboy on 22 April 2009, 10:07:51
Is the water, (condensate), collected in a dehumidifier suitable for keeping for topping up batteries?
And what about letting SWMBO bathe in it?

I think 'condensate' collected from the dehumidifier`s evaporator matrix will contain bacteria collected from the domestic air which has passed across it and also micro-particulate dust/hair/dander etc......it`s not going to be the cleanest top-up for your expensive battery....but it`ll be fine for bathing the Missus`in, Bill! ;D

Not seen a battery you can top up for a few years!

I've used it as battery top-up water. I figure any bacteria will not last long.

The "maintenance free"  battery in my Westfield needs a top up every now and then. Just pop the vent valves off the top. Underbonnet temperature is probably higher than ideal though. I've never found it necessary in a "tin top".

The air passes through a filter before hitting the evaporator, but how efficient it is is anybody's guess I suppose. I must say the water looks good enough to drink.
And Debs; what makes you think I had the missus in mind?  :D ;)

Could always run the water through a coffee filter first.

I miss my damp garage. Used to have an endless supply of decent weater for the steam iron, battery topping up and washing films, etc... ;D

Aren't they just? First thing I bought when I moved here. That reminds me. I need to run a cold feed to the washing machine from it as that's still on hard water.

We use soft water here at work as part of  production process so its on tap so to speak , I use the water in the windscreen washer it stops all the white marks ordinary water leaves behind .
I also use it to top up the engine  :y

Hd a water softener in Aylesbury, never felt the need to have one here.  Although much softer than Aylesbury, its not exactly soft here.  :-/

Apparently hard water is good for preventing heart attacks, soft water is much nicer to drink though. :)
