No, DAS just means doing the whole bike test on the bigger bike after suitable tuition, I only need 3 lessons, so they are marking it as a 4 lesson course, and tallying today as a 500 day even though I was on a 125 so they could see how I was.

Gawd! When I was a lad you could jump on a 250 (iirc) with an L plate. Then some geezer watched you ride down the high street and gave you a pass slip. No helmets either, living on the edge eh?

To illustrate how "homely" it was, I lost my examiner on the high street ride as I went left left instead of right right...   rode back to the centre to find him just going in, 'struth he said, never lost one before, did you kill anyone? On my negative reply he issued the pass slip.  :o

Good luck!

We drove to North Leicester Motorcyles in the family car. I'd already decided to buy it, simply because 15 years earlier, I had owned one just like it. We parked the bike in the pub car park opposite. I had bought it earlier, parked it, and we then went to spend the day at a National Trust property. And then back to the bike shop, now closed. A 200kg 750cc twin. I was scared, I wobbled, there was no choice. I followed the car down the motorway, too scared to ride properly, and blinded by the disntegrating lining of the old helmet that had been unused for many years. Born again after 15 years, this wasn't a glorious rebirth.

Five years later, I still own that old Laverda 750. And some new riding gear. I've ridden a few modern bikes by now. They're brilliant - fast, efficient, easy to ride. But curiously bland, compared to my rough old Laverda. One day I'll buy a Tuono.....

Modern bikers are fortunate. You never had to experience the rough old things we had to. And the motorcycles are better too. On the other hand, I didn't need to endure proper training. I survived anyway, by luck and for long enough to learn defensive skills. Or I just got old and sensible.

Enjoy your training. It has a purpose - to keep you out of trouble. Don't be in a hurry - live to ride, ride to live.

Old bikers never die, but everyone wishes they would.

AJS Model 16 350 single - a rattletrap but virtually impossible to tell it wasn't a 250 to the unknowing eye  ;-) next a 1960 BSA Gold Star DBD34 Clubmans - wish I still had that machine  8(( then a succession of Enfields, Nortons and ex-police Triumphs until my knees begged me to surrender  [smiley=cry.gif]

I still dream of that BSA, never could get to love Jap or Italian machines, even the 4-strokes.
