Title: Neighbour spraying my car
Post by: waspy on 26 April 2009, 13:12:12
I've spent three hours washing my Mig & doing a thorough job, only to find when i came out to close my gates, that my neighbour had sprayed my car with some thing close to weed killer that he puts on his hedge, I shouted "hang on minute you've sprayed the bloody car" to which he replied "oh sorry about that", but still carried on spraying >:( >:(
I shouted "stop bloody spaying whilst put my car away", to which he did.
Now i don't mind, but then he informs me "this is the last of it anyway, the EU banned some years ago" :o :o :o :o To which the dog came in & so did i.
I'd like to know what the bloody hell it is & why the EU banned it, so i shall be having words & also finding out what it's called later.
I get the feeling i shall be washing my car again >:( >:( >:( >:(

Pete I don't want to sound alarmist, but if I were you, I would get the car washed NOW! You have no idea what he used, whatever it was, I will NOT be good for your paintwork. I would also have a word with your neighbour, be diplomatic though, for all you know it was water. ::)

Yes off to do it now. We've been neighbours for fourteen years & we've never had a bad word. I shall be finding what it is though :y

I consider myself lucky as I have never had a bad neighbour - YET! Hope it's something harmless, even so it may be full of salt at the very least.  :y

would do better getting the car washed down pretty quickly and then having a chat with him just to find out what was in the spray

you don't want to wake up in the morning to no paint on the car

Highly unlikely to adversely affect your paintwork. The EU banned some pesticides & weedkillers due to possible toxicity in water run-off. To affect your paintwork, such chemicals would need to be caustic or acidic, neither of which would work as systemic weedkillers and certainly not as pesticides, since they would kill plants as well as pests!

Just rinse it off.  :y

Avatar adjusted again ;) Any better?

I was more concerned about me & the dog than the cars paint.
It's called Cutless, a growth inhibitor for hedges.

Above refers to Cutlass -- the Cutless site that LZ discovered is for use of the stuff in the good old US of A

Quite possibly is the same Lizzie -- the site I googled for Cutlass made reference to having to use shears in future --- so probably has the same use.  However the americans still use it ... being not yet so environmentally sensitive  ::)

That is the strange thing HC, the Americans are far stricter than Europe when it comes to regulating product that affects personal health, which is different than environmental protection. ;) ;)
If CUTLESS was in any way detrimental to health it would be banned, whilst here in Europe it could still be in use!! ::) ::) :D ;)

As above lizzie -- I think they are one and the same -- as they appear to both do the same job.  BBC referred to the banned chemical as Cutlass (with the "A").

I think it was banned here due to environmental damage, rather than personal health issues

If that is the case it is good news, and Pete has nothing to worry about.

I bet HC his miggy does more environmental damage than that spray, whatever it is called!! ;D ;D ;D :y

I think you are probably correct there, Lizzie.  Seems odd though that we choose to put growth accelerators on parts of the garden and inhibitors on others .... bit like mixing "uppers" and "downers" ... and look where that got Elvis !!!!!

I do think we mess around with nature too much -- one day it will turn and bite back, big time !

Let this be a warning to all who look after their cars and property, especially if you are going to use, or are in the vicinity of someone who is going to use a product like Ronseal sprayable fence paint, you know the one advertised using the laughing policeman music. It is foul stuff and goes everywhere, my nephew had to have new white drainpipes and a set of garden chairs/table after his neighbour used it, it is uncontrollable and a right ba****d to remove. The only thing that took it off his brickwork was brick acid, which is seriously dangerous stuff, so if you see Mr & Mrs next door coming back from a shopping trip with the Ronseal sprayer, let them know asap.

In my yoof, I lived at the top of a hill and decided to spray the old van I used for the disco ... nice arctic white. Was a breezy day, but all went well  :)

Later that evening I had a call frome several "excited" neighbours (living down the hill ....and downwind)  complaining about the white "dust" all over their cars  ::)

I had to T-Cut the whole bl**dy lot !!!!  Luckily it came off !
