Ah, I just wanted a change! ;) ;)

I have also been reviewing my security in the internet world, and decided a few things needed tightening up ;) ;)  I am one of the few who advertises a true likeness of themselves, which perhaps I should be beware of.

In addition, as I can claim dual nationality and am a bit fed up with the way this country is going at the moment, I thought I would honour Malta G.C., the beautiful place of my birth along with the brave and so friendly people of that Island for a nice change :y :y

Dissapointed as I am not to see either of your(Self) Avatars, I see and agree where where you are coming from on the security front.

It's like the break in next door to me a few months ago got me thinking.  Broad daylight they took a chance no one was in the house.  They like me, have a few take aways delivered to the house.  You ring up and as you give your address, they repeat your phone number and address to you.

All it takes is for some one in the shop at the time to remember the last 4 numbers as most numbers have the same 1st 2 digits.Drive padt thier home with thier own collected meal, and in my neighbers case spot the 42" plasma and computer through the window.  Why, coz they never close the curtains.  Then when thier mood takes then, drive by and the house looks empty, ring the phone number and no one picks up. :-/ :-/ :-/

Same sat in the Doctors, Names and address get repeated all the time.

With all the credt crunch, and the ID theft I am taking a new view of security as I move home.

That is exactly why I decided to be more careful after some on here have had some nasty e-mails.  It rather got me thinking!! ::) ::) ;)

However I didn't realise you were (yet) another to receive such unpleasantries!! :o :o :o   That is appalling, as with all the others >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(.

Perhaps I am lucky, but if that was to happen to me I know exactly where to go within Kent Police to get it sorted 8-) 8-) ;)

Think Lizzie was brave to put her true pic online, one which I wouldn't do myself.

Think Lizzie has done the best thing to remove it and replace it with something else. You can't be too careful in this perverse world we live in now.

Best to be safe as you can.

My partner had a rather experirence with a strange chap chat to her one day in the local supermarket, she made her excuses, and dumped her shoping basket around in the next idal and then left the shop.

Upset she told me, and I went beserk as I wanted to go down the shop and find the little (person !), and sort him out.

So now I go with her to the shops, in case he's around again, so far so good, not seen him.

Scarey though, as who knows if he's a wanted by the autherities.

Worse case I know by my experierance, so I for one think Lizzie has been very sensible if she feels it was something that needed doing.

Well when I said 'World', meant such as 'here', rather than the world par say, probably the way I put it.

Agree with you though.

Also, has anyone heard our country being referred to 'Great Britain' lately, and it's not quite so 'United' Kingdom as politicians want us to believe.

Forgot to add, if you get anymore 'iffy' emails, print them out and take them to the Police, if you think you should, they'll do the rest by having a word, usually does the trick.

I've seen the 'nice' people on here have a banter with you, so don't let the little ...... (idiots) put you off. As there's plenty of people that will support you.

Keep smiling girl  :) :y

Quite a few drivers are like me, wont take them.
My office knows i wont, and the computer is set never to give me a 'kids' job. OK sometimes one slips thro' and i decide wether to pickup.

I can really understand that TD.  Very sad but very necessary! :( :(

I didn't want to get too deep in discussion on this thread, but for me I must ask myself, where did those innocent days of the 1950s go??

We ran around, played around, going everywhere around town when only six or seven without our parents.  We played in parks, on the 'wrecks', and pushed our dollies prams without anything untowards happening to us or other children.

Yes some very unpleasant things we now know did happen to children "behind closed doors", but generally we all were very, very safe with respect for others and authority.  Now we are not only very aware of the many risks to our children / grandchildren, but also to us as adults.  Even when we use a technological 'advancements' like personal computers and e-mail.

Oh, for those long lost days of carefree innocence!! ::) ::) 8-) 8-)

And before anyone challenges this, my parents (in their 80s now) frequently confirm they were "safe" times compared to today, and it is far from just nostalgia! ;) ;)

Too true ..... many years ago when I was 11 and my brother 13 we used to cycle from near Swindon to Lechlade to go fishing (about 15 miles) on a regular basis. Coming home one day I got a puncture so we started to walk. A guy stopped to help and put both cars in the back of his truck and drove us home ... he lived nowhere near us. My Dad was extremely grateful and took him down the pub.

Would that happen now?? The kids would not get in the truck, the man would be accused of kidnap or worse, and the father would call the Police.

I spent most of my teens hitch-hiking every where ... I don't even consider picking up a hiker these days ......

We only ever locked the house doors when we went out for the day .. shopping, visiting neighbours, etc the doors were left unlocked and nothing ever got pinched.

And they call this all "progress" and a "better world"

To be fair Lizzie you are right, but It depends where you live, the kids roam the streets and the park in our village.  :)  Mind, my daughter has a mobile phone :y   Children of all ages can be seen playing, at a young age, unsupervised on many of our housing estates. As you know, most 'protection' issues are 'in house' anyway.  Just a very very simplistic comment, don't want to get drawn into a debate :D :D

When me and my brothers were kids 6-16 pretty much we used to bike everywhere, places that are near 20 miles away, always used to go camping etc not with our parents and it was just the norm. Like hell would I let my son do that now he's 15 and certainly knows how to look after himself but there are too many of these certain people for me to feel safe if he were to go far, he can stay out etc with friends as long as there is a lot of them and he don't start no trouble.

In ashford it's pretty safe but cant be to safe ourselves.

Quite a few drivers are like me, wont take them.
My office knows i wont, and the computer is set never to give me a 'kids' job. OK sometimes one slips thro' and i decide wether to pickup.
If you carnt work out why i wont, i'll tell ya   :(

Must have been a rather huge truck  ;D ;D

But understsand where your coming from  :y :y
