Warning to SmoothOmega. The following thread contains pictures of your pride and joy having the guts ripped out of it. Read on at your own risk ;D
Anyhow - I picked up the Elite on Saturday
Firstly, thanks to Smoothomega for selling me such an honest and well described car :y
First job was to pop to a tyre centre and get a couple of new fronts. The existing ones were, as described, near the end of life. They were worn on both inner and outer edges and starting to wobble a tad - so sorted that on the way home.
Had a good laugh at the muppets in ETB, who couldn't get the wheels off - and quitely told one of the lads there he really shouldn't be lying under the car kicking the wheel off, while it's only on a jack :-?
Anyhow, new tyres cured the noise and slight wobble, and handling was much much better.
I then took the beastie home - and decided to fit the new wishbones while there was still a few hours of light and sunshine. I started on the drivers one - what a barsteward. I had to beat ten bells out of the balljoint, and it was just generally quite fiddly - but I got it done. I only managed to to get the one side done, as I was working a shift later on in the evening.
Next day - I did the NS wishbone. Again, quite fiddly and hard to come apart etc, but got the job done.

So, with the wishbones done, it was time to start on my favourite job - the engine :D
Bearing in mind this car has been mostly dealer serviced - check out the coolant condition below:

A few bits taken off the engine: ::)
Note - the cams will be put in the bin - pending arrival of some 3.0 ones 8-)

And again - look at the colour inside the block and cooling system:

Cylinder heads - ready for re-furbing and porting.

One of the old head gaskets:

Next job, is to remove the oil cooler, fully refurb the heads, and do a LOT of cleaning before I Can start re-assembly...
The multirams were not working, so will have to check the vaccs etc, once it's back together...

Before you port the heads, get a 3.0 lower inlet :y

Smoother flow, the step will create a lot of turbulence which will slow down more than the step without flowing.
You always want a smooth path (not shiney - look at golf balls) with no steps and no intrusions.

Why don't they make it smooth(er) in the first place?

Why don't they make it smooth(er) in the first place?
Coz they have to make a million of them!
Its worse on a 2.5/2.6 as the 3.0 manifold is larger (the 3.0 head has larger ports).
And no, you dont want inlets smooth!
