Title: MOT YIPPEE
Post by: over50now on 01 May 2009, 12:23:13
Well, bought my miggy end of January off fleabay for £360.  with MOT until 27.04.09 and tax til 31.3.09. Have done cam covers 'cos oil in plug wells. New plugs, new leads. New o/s cat converter. Reverse light switch. Radiator fans themo switchWashed & polished and had MOT 30.3.09.  before tax ran out.  Failed on front discs pitted, minimal n/s handbake reading and noisy pas steering pump causing malfunction and n/s headlight loose - beam low.
Advisory on wishbones.  No free play but rubber bit deteriated.
Wasn't too worried, as now know what needed doing.

So since then have done:-
New discs & pads all round.  New handbrake shoes.
Handbrake all adjusted.
Headlight sourced from scrappy.
Cam belt change (with locking kit)  Marks DTM Calib DVD fantastic.

Other lttle odds & sods - tinkering.

Had it boked in today for 11am.  Bit worried 'cos bit of a whirring sound coming from either Aux belt tensioner wheel (despite re-greasing it) or alternator.

Anyway, it passed :D :D ;D ;D :) :)
Guy at MOT garage suggested the whirring noise was coming from the aux belt tensioner wheel and not alternator. Didn't try to get the work off me to do it.

Can I just get this wheel or do I have to buy the whole tensioner kit.  Hope it's not 'the whole kit 'cos ugger to take off and more of a bugger to put back on.

Still happy tho. :D :)   Got to tax it now :-? :(

Thanks for veryones advice. Wouldn't have attempted any of the jobs without this forum or your help :y

You can just get the tensioner pulley mate - £22.50 on TC :y

If it is that replace it before it goes tits up like mine - Bearing seized, pulley melted and aux belt shredded itself.  Luckilly no other damage and a complete ring of belt about 8mm in dia still running alternator, water pump etc!!  Could have been a lot worse!
