Title: Productive Day
Post by: tunnie on 10 May 2009, 18:58:22
Had a productive day today, up early for me!

Worked on my facelift 2.2, removed the throttle body, coil pack, EGR valve.

Filled the EGR valve with paint stripper, cleaned the throttle body, popped off the old coil pack, got a shinny new coil pack, refitted it all, and went for a run.

Spanner light came on again, EGR needs replacing, had a wiring fault on tech2.

Its pulling nicer at lower revs, no more juddering, that said only did it occasionaly before.

Got the bike running and popped it up to TheBoy's, he very kindly took a look at the wiring on the back cluster, as one of my indicators stopped working.

Pleased to say we got it working, refitted it all, now the other side don't work  >:(

Still was a useful day  :D

Overall still a damn good days work there Tunnie!! :y :y :y

Funny that though, so often you complete the work only to find something else has expired!! ::) ::) ;)

Couldn't believe the other side packed up  >:(

Just shows how crap some of those connectors that Yamaha used really are  >:(

Whip the back off it again, might be worth a bit of contact cleaner in that other connector.  Or swap the indicator reflector housing over, just to prove it was the wiring, not poor connection on the bulb holder...

No not really, they need to be 'box' connectors that clip together.

Male to female type

Yup, multiplugs needed.

Would prefer to continue using them, as the rear light cluster will always have to come off when rear blubs blow  >:(

So disconnection ability is needed.

Thats the purpose of male/female connectors.....   ;)

The idea is you cut the wires from the multiplug and socket and crimp/solder a male bullet connector in place if the plug and a female in place of the socket on each wire. then when you need to separate them they just pull apart. It's a lot of seperate plug/sockets instead of one big plug with all the contacts in.

Pah kids today eh Broocie.

Or cut the connectors off, wrap the wires around each other and then wrap a bit of insulating tape around them.

You'll be using soldered bullet connectors and heat shrink then.

Halfords and similar usually have a boxed collection of assorted connectors, cheaper if you buy a load of them together....

It isnt a bodge,it saves a bit of weight thus increasing the power to weight ratio. :y ;D ;D

That pack looks good, but a bit pricey.

Think a pack of Mini-connectors 2.8mm should do the job?

If you're buying a set get one with a ratchet crimper they're much better than the simple squeeze type, easier to use and do a much better job of fixing the terminal.

Twisted wire and wrigleys does a better job than those things.

Think I have used ALL the suggested methods over the years ::) ::) then a couple of years ago I discovered a terminal block that the two halves plugged into each other :y :y Really good, used it for my Halloween effects in the garden, to connect things to a control box :D :D :D
