Title: Very silly Traffic Cop
Post by: waspy on 13 May 2009, 17:40:30
I was out & about today bringing back another winch. I'd just got to the M18 juction south bound of the M1 in the middle lane to over take an Artic. Looked in my off side mirror & saw a Traffic Car coming down the off side lane very fast with its blue's on (i thought this guys really moving).  I was about a hundred meters away from the finish of the slip road when he came passed me like his arse was on fire, but then cut straight across all three lanes to join the M18. Taking into account that it had just rained & he was really moving some, i watched him as he braked down from about 100 to around 50MPH in this short space. The front of his Volvo was squirming all over the shop as he tryed to control his car. My thoughts are "he's either gona take out the two cars on the slip road or arse end the Artic". He just & only just by the skin of his teeth managed to slow enough. He could've very eassily created havock. His mate behind took the sensible way & went down the inside of us all.
So i guess not all the training in the world can stop you making mistakes, but if a member of Joe Public had pulled a stunt like this & was seen. They'd probably lost their licence for a while.
The other thing i witnessed was two Police Motorcyclist's giving it some along the M62 with no blue's at all, at a guess they where doing 110MPH >:( >:( >:(
It still seems a rule for one & NOT the other.
I'm off out again tomorrow, wonder what stunts i'll see ::) ::) ::) ;)

You can train them as much as you like, but you cant legislate for the adrenhalin rush when they're on a shout.

Now - I cannot comment firmly on this because I Don't know what policies are in place re. blue lights.

But I'd imagine they may need to ride at high speed without blues for certain operational reasons - such as, not alerting a potential suspect to their presence, etc.

Hopefully someone who knows more can confirm.

Silent approach? At 110mph? On the motorway? Behave. ;D

Maybe one of them was Mark Milton of West Mercier

It's not really that bad on the motorway, I know they can do a lot of damage but less chance there. I hate it when they bomb up our road with the kids playing out, which they do, often.

If you're still where you were when I last visited you grandad, there are heaps of places for kids to run out  :'(
