Title: Recession woes!
Post by: bob.dent on 14 May 2009, 00:01:27
I wondered how long it was going to be but it's finally hit our company now. 5 staff made redundant today and empty order book. :'( only booked a holiday of a lifetime in the Caribbean recently and looking like I might have to cancel. :'( :'(
Although I'm accounts/admin manager and been told my jobs safe at the moment I think its just a matter of time. :-/

I don't doubt that for one minute. Still, it'll come as a real shock to the system if we go down the pan. I been employed at this company for over 30 years and only ever been out of work once which was only for 3 weeks when I was a teenager!! Oh well, fingers crossed. ::)

Sorry to hear that, Bob.

I genuinely believe that there will be no upturn until there is a General Election. No one is willing to invest until they see a clearer picture of the way ahead.  :(

I am sure you work for a company that expects a professional  approach to it's work, so I will refrain from sending your management certain pictures of you being rather less than professional....

Really sorry to hear that Bob, Its everywhere isn't it. Our company is in talks at the moment, they are trying to take our overtime rates off us saying that if we don't it could be 6 months till the doors are closed.

In my profession my job is hard to come by, especially for the money I am on now. Not a nice feeling is it!  :'(

Keep your chins up Bob.

As a very wise man once said 'It's no good worrying till it happens and once it has happened it's too late to worry'.  :y

I think what makes it even worse is the fact we've spent close to £500000.00 over the last few years developing a new software product and it was released for sale in January just in time for the recession!! >:( Around 80% of our customers are Government and although they have expressed high interest in the new product , their spending has been capped, hence no orders. It's going to take a miracle to pull us out of this one. :-/

I'm glad we make beanz.  ;)

People eat cheap when they're short on money, and beanz are cheap (if you don't buy Snap Pots ;D)

Bob,

I work for BT and have survived last years job cuts and was just beginning to breathe a sigh of relief when they go and announce 15,000 more job losses! I've worked for BT for the last 26 years so I'm not sure what I could do other than phones in the big wide world.

Know how you feel Bob, we have lost 11% of workforce since start of the year & no one feels safe in their jobs any more, never seen morale so low  :(

sorry to hear it, my company made redundancies in Jan, once those concerned were told there was a big sigh off relief from us that were left, 6 weeks later it was announced that we're shutting down by the end of this year, it's just a waiting game now, every extra month is a bonus.
