Well as in the title it took me quarter of an hour to get my car out of my works carpark. Watched the cctv footage this morning well :-[
Turned up to work yesterday snow down the slope leading to carpark drove down ok and parked but getting it out was another story come 4pm when I finished work snow and Ice still covering the ground and it took ages to get any kind of grip.
If it wasn't one wheel spinning the other was doing nothing.
Now I know I am in need of new rear tyres I know but how does the dif/axle system work as I was amazed to see one wheel spinning and the other doing nought. unfortunately for me my car doesn't have the snow button.
In the end I got my car out by placing a piece of wood under the rear wheels moving forward and then moving the wood again, it was alright once I had got onto the dryish part of the slope.
Just thought I'd share the fun i had :D

A standard diff will only ever power one wheel at a time. It's the same with any car and it's just the way they work.

Cool, thats good to know as I was beginning to think I had a problem :)

Yeah, only an LSD would prevent the single wheel spinning.
The later ABS/TC units may help a little by applying brake to spinning wheel...

Well one good thing came out of yesterday I know the abs is working although not the best in snow icy conditions just gave the signs of working which is good to see. hard to describe and a very strange feeling when it kicks in.

LSD would help you get going, but would make car much twitchier in bad conditions. Much better to just have decent tires.

I'm with you on the tyre situation, sourcing prices at the moment for the end of the month :)

If you drive properly, you shouldn't have the blighter on much. I haven't had to turn mine off this winter (or ever for that matter)
