due to being forced onto the bread line, this years holiday will be a driving trip and not a villa abroad :'( .
as i will be camping and requiring some peace and quiet anyone recommend any nice places in mid/southern regions of scotland where i may get both? :y

Loads of camping areas in South and Mid Scotland... but if you are tarvelling that far I'd recommend you go a bit further and visit some really fantastic places up the west coast. Particularly if you are camping try to go to Morar, near Mallaig. Lots of camp sites, breathtaking views, long sandy beaches (remember the movie Local Hero?) and ferry trips over to Skye. Or if you really want a drive... go up to Ullapool way up on the north West Coast. There is a campsite at Ardmair point which has the most fantastic views, sea otters, mountains etc.
If you're not too keen on going quite so far try Peebles in the Borders or Callander and The Trossachs.
Oh and a message from the Scottish Toutist Board - Don't bother coming, just send us your money. ;D

On the way up to the West of Scotland I personally would always stop off in the Lake District.
In addition don't forget about the distillery tours:

I like the cask strength non-chill filtered stuff - but agreed they are better finished in the same night. Well.. the whisky starts to go off as soon as the cork's out :D :D

I have to admit to partaking indulging in a rather nice blended malt. I try not to drink it too often as a small (200ml) bottle costs approx £65. I dont pay that for it though. ::)
I would love a proper sized bottle, but thats a bit more than I will pay. (even at my prices)
I'll stick to me fave Black Label for now. Or maybe a Buchanan's if I am having a flush month. :D ;D
