why is this such a rubbish network :'(
-
I have a 3 dongle and works great.......... :y
-
whats a dongle?
-
Mobile Internet connection, use it when away from home..... :y
-
I know 3 piggybacks one of the other networks, T-Mobile or the old BT Cellnet (02).
Neither of which are that good in the first place.
I used to cell? ::) sell mobile phones, the majority of returns were from the three network.
Not the most reliable network, and I wouldn't recommend it.
But that is only my opinion, as Mike has already said, he does not have a problem.
I have a vodafone dongle and I never have had a problem.
-
What is the problem? I'm on 3 and don't really have any complaints. Admittedly the reception indoors at home is poor, but all the networks are like that! I find the bundles are good value and haven't really had any problems!
They piggyback on O2 if, and only if' there isn't a 3G signal' which most places now have.

Alledgedly the best coverage of any network in UK. Certainly the only network that works in my house (Shame I'm on Voda!).

You need to chose a network that give best coverage for where you are likely to need it. Saying 3 is rubbish is probably a bit harsh, just that its unsuitable for you.
I considered 3 a while back, but ended up sticking to the main 2 due to better coverage for my area.

My son bought a "3" dongle for his laptop, zero signal where he lives, he's on an RAF base, we wondered if the radars and vector's were jamming / masking the signal, so, he's driven off base into surrounding villages, still the same, shite :'(
I get a good signal on it here in Massive old Stoke, and in Cheshire too, at our towable homes location :-X
Oh! he's on BT broadband now, max .5 of a meg.... poor sod can't win..
DC ;D

Random quote ? Or based on anything factual resulting in a poor experience ?
-
whats a dongle?
Ask him nicely and he'll show you ;) ;D
-
no i've been on 3 for a while now when signing up they checked coverage and was fine. You can have a full 3g signal make a call and it drops to bugger all
-
3 works fine here, i'd recommend it :y
Had one issue where the phone wouldnt work in an entire area of the lakes, but got onto a very helpful bloke who talked me through the phone settings to fix it :y everytime ive needed it had excellent customer service.

I've had good service from them too!
I suppose the deal is sweetened somewhat because I get an affiliate discount with them too ::) ::) ::)

Yep, best Uk coverage by some margin (seem to recall reading they are going to merg networks with another operator to, Orange?)
But, like any radio based setup.....there will be good and bad reception areas.

Best 3G UK covarage :y :y
Interesting if they are going to merge with Orange as Hutchinson started Orange, then found they couldn't make any money so sold it off... Now, several years down the line they have started 3, which they are still struggling to make a decent profit from (probably due to the huge outlay required setting up 3G coverage) and are thinking of merging with Orange.
Isn't it strange how things turn full circle ;) ;) ;)

No, bet UK coverage as they drop onto one of th other 2G networks when a 3G network is not availble

Oh yes... Good point. And O2 are supposed to have the best UK coverage (2G) :y :y :y
They also have the best 3G coverage as that is what they are aiming for :y :y :y

T-MOB cell site sharing - its allready advanced and ongoing :y

I've been with 3 for a few years now. Signal is usually fine, but a bit hit-and-miss with low cloud.

Inside info on 3
Yes they have the best coverage as the HPA's are set too maximum unlike the other 4 operators! to maximise coverage
3 are merging with Deutchtelekom in europe in the uk DT own T-Mobile who have a 7.2mbps network 3 are in the process of upgrading there current hsdpa 3.6mbps network to 7.2mbps its been done in my area
dont knock 3 i get 5.0mbps download rate at 1am! if your using a dongle my best advice is to use OpenDNS as three's dns is very slow and causes loads of page cannot be displayed errors!
Dave have you tried an NTE2000 on your sons line may be worth a try
Vodafone have a good hsdpa network but are too expensive i get 15gb for 15 quid and i still manage to use that up nearly!
Three also works very well with XBox Live & Sony's PSN vodafone & t-mobile use shared IP so dont work very well 3 use static ip behind a proxy i think but i get NAT 2 on the ps3 so it cant be too bad
when no 3g 3 uses orange problably be t-mobile soon though
-
Beware of mobile internet under a third generation network as it has 'issues'
The key one is that you generally have a 3 cell set up around teh base station and each cell can tolerate around 70ish Mb maximum.
The three cells use the same frequency and thanks to some black magic type coding setup, this works ok.
Howver, as you increase the bandwidth useage in one cell, the other 2 drop off as well!
Hence, mobile broadband is great whilst you dont have many subscribers.....it soon drops off as more use it (imagine being next to say a tower block with 100 families in it!)

When did that change? It was O2 (the tech boys at 3 confirmed this for me) about 6 months ago :-/ :-/
-
yes mark spot on! in the day im lucky to get half a meg if that 3 as we all know have way way too many customers especially with this 15gb deal theyre doing
i always get kicked off on the playstation if i play at 6pm -8pm peak time i suppose!
FYI 3 Use Cable & wireless for there internet backbone just about says it all lol
-
my dongle wont go onto o2 only orange if it cant get 3g
my SE X1 will force onto orange only aswell
-

Ahhh.... Could be different for Data and voice then :-/ :-/ :y :y
-
mobile internet dongles usually have fairly low bandwidth caps too (around 3GB) so you have to be careful how much you use it
-
yes three charge a eyewatering £100 per GB if you go over so be warned!!!!!!
-
The change from roaming from 02 TO Orange.
Orange undercut o2 on the roaming charges saving us substantially each month!

Ahhh... Thanks for that! It explains why the signal has gotten slightly worse at home now ::) ::) ::)
