let me set the scene. i work in right in the middle of a very small town centre, so there are a fair few cars that i see time and time again parked up. one of them was a v-plate 2.5i v6 omega elite. metallic gold with cream leather interior. usual elite toys. looked pretty mint.
i saw the car driving about with it's lady owner, and one day it pulled up next to me as i was walking down the high street. as she got out of the car i told her about this forum and said that her car looked mint, not a scratch on her and when i looked over the body it was solid. 78k on the clock and no rust, bubbles, scratches, dinks, stone chips - nothing. we talked a bit, she said she drove it from the neighbouring village into town (2 miles) and back every couple of days and that was it. we parted company.
i then saw the same car parked up earlier this week and had another look without anyone around. very very tidy.
i was stood in the bank moments later and i recognised the lady next to me as the owner of the car. we got chatting again and i said 'look if you ever decide to sell the motor let me know cos i might be interested in taking it off your hands'. i hadn't anticipated the response which was 'well my husband wants me to get rid of it as its too big to just go to town and back in so i'll let him know and he can get in touch'.
i hadn't meant to prompt her into selling me the car, my 3.0i v6 elite is running like a brand new car at the moment! i meant 'when you decide to sell it i might be looking to replace mine' thinking she might call in a year or two!!!
today i got a call from the husband saying 'bascially if you want to buy it come over and have a look, it's mint, my wife drives it to town and back and that's it, 78k miles, last owner was an old boy who had it for years, did no miles in it and no one else sat in the car with him (hence mint leather) then he died so we bought it off his wife when we saw it in the paper. i'm not bothered about selling it but if the offer is right we can get something more economical'. he gave me his address and the call ended with me gobsmacked!
now, i guess i have to decide if i really want another omega elite when mine is running fine and i'm about to start work on my 2.5i v6 cavalier. the answer is probably 'this is the wrong time' but if i do decide to go for it anyway (seems to good not to) what would you reckon a v-plate omega elite, 78k miles with full vxsh, in superb condition is worth? been a while since i bought mine (five years!)
i realise i could have just asked the question but wanted to share with you the turn of events that led me there!! :y

£1,200 - £1,500 or what you are prepared to pay! 8-) 8-) ;) ;)
-
has it been serviced well, a cople of miles a day by a lady, :-X is'nt all that good for a engine
i would say around the £1000 mark, but as LZ says what ever you are willing to pay
-
Going by what you say, around the £1500 quid mark would be a sensible offer.
I'd then give it the 'full monty' service-wise, and probably a fair thrashing to clean-out the cobwebs!
Keep us 'up to speed' on progress.

Short journeys cause condensation to build up in the motor. The car doesn't get up to proper operating temperature.
It may look mint...but give the motor a good checking over. :y

nah, it was a while back and they said they don't have a computer. besides i'm not going to try and scam anyone. if i buy it i don't mind paying a fair price, not looking to rip anyone off.

You won't if you offer £1,200 to £1,500 MAX 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)
But don't be too sentimental towards this couple as you will end up ripping yourself off with the first set of big maintenance bills!! ::) ::) :D ;)
-
im assuming its a facelift if so £1200 - 1500 is about right
if its a prefacelift then .........
-
I personally wouldnt be going above 3 figures....£999 max - £1000 if you feel nice ::)
-
Based on what you have described and including the mileage, if it's a facelift then the book price is £900 if it's a 99 V, or £1200 if it's a 2000 V.
-
mini facelift. i wont be going near £1500... not in any hurry though, just as and when they decide to sell, if mine needs replacing then i'll consider it but tbh my elite is running like a dream so there's no rush
